x60: Strange noise

I just bought a x60. It is running well except an annoying high frequency whooshing noise. It is louder when I turn on my laptop. Sometimes it is so loud that even affect the microphone. What is that and any suggestions?

I read somewhere that updating BIOS might help. I have checked my BIOS is the newest.

Could it be the 7200rpm HDD? Or any drivers?

There is no such sound when I run diagnostics.

Thanks!

I think this has already been discussed here, I think they said it was the AC adapter. Look around here and you'll find it.

I unplugged my AC and that sound is gone! It seems the strange noise is with the AC!

What's the suggestion then? Do you think they will replace the AC if I tell lenovo this?

some people have just told lenovo that they needed a new AC adapter... and apparently they replaced it free of charge... so go for it

I found this in another post:

It seems that most people have problems with only battery on. But my case seems to be the opposite...

I think Lenovo just shipped a bad (noisy) batch of AC adapters. I got one too. Phone them and ask for a replacement.

It might be safer to figure out which AC Adapter FRU doesn't make noise and ask Lenovo support for it as replacement.

I got this suggestion from another forum as well.

I called IBM and they asked me to press the power button 12 times with 30 sec for the last time. They say this release the electricity. (?) It seems that the annoying sound is gone for now. I will see how it works from now on. If the sound comes again, I will ask for a replacement.

I listen to the ac adapter itself and found that it is making the high pitch sound!! The adapter is definitely not good.

Called IBM again. They will mail one to me and I can keep the bad one.
