I am planning to order an X61s or X61 in the near future. It is important to have a quiet hard drive. Does anyone know if there are any differences in noise levels among the available hard drives (80, 120 or 160 GB 5400 rpm, or 60 or 100 GB 7200 rpm)? Thanks.

I think it will depend on the hard drive manufacturer you receive. My 120GB 5400RPM was made by Hitachi. Others have received some by Fujitsu and Seagate.

Thanks -- among Hitachi, Fujitsu and Seagate, do you know which are quietest?

my x61s came with a Seagate 100 gb 7200 rpm drive and it is very quiet (no clicking noises).
Back in the day I used to get Seagate drives on my desktops because of their known quietness and stability. I've heard good things about the hitachi notebook drives though, so it might not matter much. For what it's worth, I'd chose seagate if I had a choice.

My new X61 has the Hitachi 7K200 -- 200 GB at 7200. I have had the 7K60, 7K100 and now 7K200, and in my opinion (no hard noise measurements) the 7K200 has the lowest noise and least vibration of the bunch. No seeking noises, to speak of, either. And that speed ...
