Such pricings sound somehow familiar to me and I do not live in asia, where almost all notebook equipment is originated/manufactured from.

A loaded X61 here in China costs you around $3600. I shopped around here in Shanghai and prices are quite costly for Thinkpads. From what I understand is that all Thinkpads have to exported to the states and then reshipped from the States back to China. The tax on those Laptops coming from the States is then high. I found this odd in marketing when all other notebook manufacturers here in China seem to be quite cheap compared to other places. Asus and Sony among others here are not expensive. I wonder if they probably manufacture them here directly in China and then sell them directly locally without shipping them back to Japan and Taiwan like Lenovo does by sending them back to the US.. The same notebook which cost no more then $2200 in the US costs at least $3600 here in Shanghai.

One local retailer here said that the X61 sells very well and that they sell at least 5-6 pieces a day and on good days he can sell 10-15 pieces. This is one little shop in a computer mall off of Huaihai Rd. That's a lot of notebooks
