I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find it in a hurry. Does anyone know exactly which X61(s) get the RGB IBM logo on the case and palmrest and which the white ThinkPad one? Which do you get if you order from the Lenovo website?

Retail purchases, including those from the Lenovo web site, have the IBM logo. Generally corporate customers and EPP purchases have the ThinkPad logo.

Too bad. I'd rather have an all Lenovo/ThinkPad branded TP than the mixed branding that we've seen in the recent models. The IBM branding on those seems a bit half-hearted.

I bought my X61s through EPP and I received the IBM logo. I think it's only the corporate purchases that receive the new ThinkPad logo.

I second you.
To the OP, by 2008 all Thinkpads/ThinkCentre machines will come completely with lenovo labels.

An all IBM branding (including the RGB IBM on the AC adapter) would be the best, but that's obviously not in the cards. The current situation has the display and bottom saying "lenovo" and the palm rest saying "IBM", and somehow this bothers me more that it should. So much, in fact, that I'll probably hold off for an all ThinkPad branded X62s, hopefully with a Penryn CPU and a higher resolution display

A bunch of X61ts all with IBM.
I believe you have to order 1000, then by default you get the ThinkPad logo, but can request the IBM logo.

Hmmm ... at least in Canada it appears that EPP purchases are also arriving with the ThinkPad logo, starting with the *61 series ThinkPads. Maybe that's Canada only? Or outside the US only?

As long as you are in no hurry to get a new ThinkPad ...

Matt on LenovoBlogs had a post on this a little while ago. He went into strategy and the whys and whens of changing to Lenovo branding.
http://www.lenovoblogs.com/insidethebox/?p=85
To summarize:
* If you are a customer who buys large enterprise models or our “workhorse” models, your sticker will be the new ThinkPad sticker. Under certain circumstances our largest customers have the option of buying systems with the old logo.
* If you are buying our systems at retail or through the web, your sticker will continue to be the familiar IBM ThinkPad logo. You will not have a choice of the logo you receive.
* All of our ThinkCentre desktops today continue to have both the IBM name as well as the Lenovo name on the front. Starting later this year, we will start removing the IBM logo from the products.
* All of our keyboards and mice shipped with our ThinkCentre desktops will feature the Lenovo logo only
* Our options and accessories will either feature the ThinkPad logo if it is a ThinkPad option or the Lenovo logo if is a Lenovo accessory.
Even shorter summary:
I ordered my X61s from the Lenovo website (shareholder purchase plan, but it's the same), and got the multi-colored IBM logo inside and out.

I ordered a couple of IBM Logos from eBay this morning for only a few bucks .... I would have posted this in the T6x forum but this discussion here at X6x seemed more relavent, so I appolgize in advance:
On my new T61, does anyone know if I have to first pry off the Lenovo labels, or do the IBM logos normally paste right over the Lenovo labels? Also, could this minor cosmetic change impact my warranty status (highly doubtfull, but I had to ask)? Thanks!

My new X61tablet arrived today and its the first laptop at the company that we've had thats not got the IBMThinkpad logo in the bottom right.
Its this model:
http://www5.pc.ibm.com/europe/products. ... esite=cema
not a CTO order (we dont get CTO's here in NL).
We are a company with about 100 thinkpads but are not ordering directly from Lenovo, but from a major Lenovo dealer in NL.
Just an FYI.

Personally I prefer to have the old "IBM Thinkpad" badge, but my T60 2008ZWP is a CTO type, and came without any "IBM" logos, just "Thinkpad serials"
eecon, Will you please let me know if the badges you bought from ebay are exactly same with the original badge? Maybe I will order some from ebay too.

How did you order a CTO model in Canada?

tomh009,
Actually I bought this machine from Lenovo Canada's website(clearance corner) in June.

Very interesting! Could be that Lenovo Canada does CTOs for large corporates (who also get the ThinkPad badging rather than the IBM badging), and maybe that's that was on the clearance corner ...
