Hi,

i am going to own X60s (model 1702) and plan to replace my 60GB/5K4 with WD Scorpio 160GB (not certified by Lenovo). What will happens to warranty in case I should sent the notebook to the service? Will they void the warranty? What would you do in this case?

P.S. My first topic here, sorry for the english.

It will not void the warranty. If your thinkpad needs service, just send in the thinkpad without the hard drive.

Exactly.
I never send in my Thinkpads with the hard drive in place. I always pull it out. I don't want then blowing away my data if they reimage the hard drive and if the hard drive is bad I have them send me another one. I will maintain my own OS/Software.

Thank you! If they accept thinkpad without HDD for non-HDD repair, that would be the best option for me.

You don't need to send anything that's not part of the problem. Ultrabay (CD/DVD drives), memory, HDD, PC cards etc. should be removed before sending out your Thinkpad to the repair. I even know a person who sent out battery and AC adapter to the repair.
