Hi everybody;

Just got my X61t and I LOVE it!

However I have some issues with what I believe is a conflict between the Mulitouch driver and the wacom enhanced driver. Prior to installing the enhanced driver, everything was working beautifully, except of course a lack of pressure sensitivity when drawing in Photoshop/Painter/etc...

So of course I HAD to install the enhanced driver (I will refer to it as ED from now on) as I bought this lovely machine to render on. Now after installing ED, I cannot calibrate the Multitouch interface (which still works, but is so uncalibrated there isn't much point) The calibration application fails to go beyond displaying one of the crosshairs, and then promptly closes. In addition to being unable to calibrate MT, the Wacom digitizer won't calibrate either ( however, there is little visual discrepancy between stylus and cursor)

I really don't know what to do... I emailed Wacom, and they told me there aren't any reported issues (other than mine) and I would love to be able to use my new tablet to its potential...

additionally GzSnd.exe fails to quit whenever I shut down, and that is related to the MultiTouch driver (MT is manufactured by Gunze)

BTW:

X61T L7500 @1.6Ghz w/ 1 Gb of Ram running XP tablet...

any help would be much appreciated !

Sounds familiar B-)

I encountered this before. First, check if it is the rectangular frame around your screen that is causing the problem. The touchpanel is made of a layer of glass with a rectangular wire below to sense the X and Y location. tap all around the frame to loosen up any compressed area, er....slightly flex the screen if tapping fails, the idea is to hopefully get the rectangular wire to start sensing again.

My guess is that when you install the ED, it tried to calibrate the multi-touch panel. But due to gravity, the lower right or left frame usually get 'pinch'. (mine was the right-lower). You can test this out by starting the calibration program and qucikly press and drag on the upper half of the screen. You should see the cursor appears from below and when you release your finger it will quickly zip back to that corner. That is the place you need to tap/flex to relieve the 'pinch' there.

When that finished, run the calibration GzSgn again and it should work. Mine did

If not, then you have to re-install back to factory setting.

Well thanks for the tip Ideasmiths, that worked fine for calibrating the MT, but I have had to go back to the factory settings

The Multitouch began accepting input from the stylus and finger at the same time... truly "multitouch" but completly useless as it totally freaked the machine... I think this may have to do with the MT driver update 1.0.2.1... which i had installed... conflicting with the ED...

I'm going to reinstall the ED now (made a backup of the drive just incase) and see if it all goes to crap...

EDIT: Yup it tweaked out as soon as i tried to use the calibration tool...

I've been suffering from this too.

So did this not work? What was the "freaked" or "tweaked out"? Was it stuff like was described in this thread: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=47385 ?

I've been being driven batty by all this - I already wrote something about it at http://www.gottabemobile.com/forum/foru ... 5429#25429 so I'll just copy/paste here:

I have the same problem here, and it's driving me nuts. With the minidriver, GIMP doesn't detect that the pen is an "extended input device" (which has the pressure-sensitivity with the eraser detection and everything). If I install the extended Penabled drivers direct from Wacom, I can use the pressure sensitivity fine (with GIMP) - but I start getting the same calibration failures as outlined in the original post. (I've found that during the stylus calibration, I can tap a gazillion times and eventually it'll advance the calibration. But of course, the calibration that is off is the manual touchscreen calibration.)

I've carried some suspicion over the quality of the Gunze drivers, but I can't find any updated drivers that work at all. The only drivers available from GunzeUSA are broken links, and seem to be relabeled versions of those for "controllers" from "Hampshire Company" (Gunze didn't even bother to change the screenshots in their help file). The drivers from the Hampshire Company site don't seem to detect the touch screen properly. The TPDD drivers from Gunze's Japan site seem more similar to the default drivers, but I haven't been able to figure out the right combination of settings - 4 or 8 or 5 wires or "one-sheet", and which COM port.... Does anyone know the exact components/configurations involved in the touchscreen's hardware?

These failures could be just my computer, too - for some reason I only see two COM ports, when I should have nine-ish. Maybe someone else could try these drivers, perhaps with more luck:

Meanwhile, I'm operating without touchscreen functionality; it's not worth the frustration of it being badly calibrated.

[edit] All of a sudden, now it's accepting both touch and stylus, even without the Gunze drivers...but they're registering as two devices, so it double-inputs (i.e draws two lines, etc.) each time I put pen to screen... :/

Same issue here. Installing the Wacom driver causes all sorts of issues, esp when attempting to calibrate.

There is only one solution to this.

You just have to use the recovery CD and DVD to reinstall Windows XP Tablet edition provided by Lenovo.

I tried to install my own XP Tablet, then install all the drivers. It won't work. You'll always get stuck with the multitouch and digitizer working together.
After using a XP tablet recovery DVD to recover my HDD to factory state, and a custom recovery, everything magically works.

My x61t came with Vista, so I had to shell out $50 for buying the XP tablet recovery DVDs.

I saw exactly the same issues as the original poster, and ended up just uninstalling the Wacom enhanced driver.

I didn't have to reinstall Windows - I just removed the Multitouch driver, the tablet driver, rebooted, and reinstalled the drivers from the Lenovo site. Works fine.

But just to confirm - does anyone out there have the Wacom enhanced driver working *together* with the touch functionality? (I know that the Wacom driver is OK on the X61T without touch, only stylus)

What's silly is that clearly pressure sensing is already implemented, since ArtRage and OneNote have this without the Wacom driver. It's just that Photoshop, etc rely on the Wacom API, not whatever Windows API is used by the other programs.

Same problem here, except I'm running a X60 on WinXP (shouldn't make a difference, since the two models are so similar).

I made a thread regarding this at the TabletPCReview forums, and I got the following response:

Here's the only way I know how...it's documented to fix mis-calibration between the wacom driver and the MS driver, but it also fixes the disconnect that can happen when the wacom driver is in effect.

Install the wacom driver (5.05-7 is the one I used previous to the changeover to Linux), then go into regedit (Start>Run...>regedit). Back up your registry (in case you really mess it up) by going to File>Export... After the backup's done, you can edit the registry. Locate the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\TabletServicePen\PARAMETERS. After you found the key, add a DWORD (32bit works) named WTKernelBypass to it. Close regedit and reboot. Everything should work after that."

HOWEVER, when I tried this, I found that it didn't fix a thing. To make things worse, after I removed the Wacom and Multitouch drivers (so I could reinstall just the Multitouch drivers), I was greeted by a registry issue where Windows would log me out immediately after logging in. Don't know if this was coincidence (unlikely, since it was running just fine before I tried the guy's tip). Had to do the Factory Restore *grumble*.

So... Can someone actually confirm use of the MultiTouch driver with the wacom driver?

I haven't tried messing about, just gave up, disabled the multitouch and have been using the wacom ED... I just did a clean install (to freshen things up

) and have not reinstalled the wacom just yet...

Is there anyone out there that has both running on with XP?

robojack, any success with the registry solution? is there a link to that thread so I can take a look?

Unfortunately not. I tried it, and twice it messed up my system. So I haven't tried since. But you're welcome to try it, but that's all the information I got.

Great News!!!

Okay... so the registry thing seemed a failure, and I had absolutely no desire to do a factory install or mess about for four hours...

I did yet another search (thank you Google) and found this:

now the example was using the Vista32 Multitouch driver... which I tried... but it didn't work, gave me the classic "double-digitizer" effect... but then I uninstalled the Multitouch and un/reinstalled the wacom drivers, reinstalled XPMultitouch and JACKPOT!

Now... the one thing was, when you go to calibrate the touch panel...nothing... doesn't do anything... and we've seen this before

and you go to calibrate the wacom, and it calibrates the MultiTouch

, and the wacom stylus goes dead

But! if you go to component services, and restart the wacom tablt service... everything works!

let me know if this works (can we call this a fix? not really... but a hell of a lot better!)

now, I'm not sure what to do to if I need to calibrate the wacom

Well, it's been a while, but I tried this again and now things are working fine. I now have pressure sensing in Photoshop with the stylus, touch functionality, and both pen and touch modes successfully calibrate.

I updated my X61 Tablet to Vista 32bit, which has probably helped, then:

1) Removed all touch and pen drivers
2) Downloaded and installed the Wacom Penabled driver (the TabletPC driver, not the Bamboo driver as described elsewhere:

3) ignore "device not found" messages and reboot
4) Download and install the Lenovo Multitouch driver from here:

5) ignore any "device not found" messages and reboot

And hey presto, everything worked. Photoshop CS4 picked up the pen automatically, and senses pressure perfectly. Touch functionality still works. Both the touch screen and the stylus can be calibrated.

Art Rage 2, however, which had sensed pressure perfectly before, suddenly only sensed two levels of pressure. Fortunately, the ArtRage forum provided a fix, basically to create a file called no_ink.inf in the Resources folder of the ArtRage program. This tells ArtRage to ignore Vista Ink Services and instead use the newly installed Wacom driver.
