Does battery become loose over time? (X61s)

My X61s' 8 cell battery can wiggle about 1mm. I don't plan on carrying the laptop by the battery. Will the battery become loose over time? I have a T40 which I bought secondhand and the 9 cell battery can wiggle a couple millimeters.
