Blue ThinkVantage button no longer boots into R&R

I have Vista Business 64-bit installed on my X61s. Ever since the format, I can no longer boot into Rescue and Recovery from the blue ThinkVantage button. I have R&R 4.0 64-bit installed, however.

I tried this fix:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-54483

but it prompted a window saying this OS is not supported. Check if you have x86 or x64 installed. I'm assuming R&R is not compatible with Vista x64. I didn't have any problems booting into R&R when I had Vista Basic x86 installed.

When you formatted your machine, did you nuke the hidden partition as well?

If it's no longer there, that'll explain why the button doesn't work.

No I did not. The hidden partition is still there.

You have to check that the hidden partition has partition type "0x12" (Compaq Diagnostics).

You could use Acronis or Partition Magic to check that. Not sure if there's any freeware that is able to do that.

And if it doesn't? Do I have to reformat the drive again?

You can just use that software (either of the two mentioned above) to change the partition type over to "0x12", and it should work again.

I would say you are on the right track. However, until Lenovo posts a Rescue and Recovery - Recovery repair diskette download for Vista 64, I believe you are out of luck. You need this to fix the MBR for both R&R and Vista 64.

With a Rescue and Recovery, Rescue Media CD, you should be able to boot from that to enter Rescue and Recovery and use it's features. Normally you can burn one yourself from Start > All Programs > ThinkVantage > Create Recovery Media.

Can anyone assist in getting the Vista MBR fixing (version 4) uility onto a CD iso?

I don't have an external usb disk drive, so this file is pretty pointless in floppy format.

Can anyone please assist?

Thank you in advance! :)

For me the easiest way was simply uninstalling and re-installing R&R. This fixed the thinkvantage button behaviour within windows as well as on bootup.
