What's all the talk about brightness, ultralight etc?
I always set the brightness of my lcd rather low in order to prevent less eye strain. I don't like the dazzle from high brightness/contrast. So in my case would I benefit from an ultralight screen? besides the 100g less weight.
Yia sou,
it depends on the individual lighting conditions where you use the notebook. The X60s/X61s with 12.1" UltraLight TFT-panels offer visibly more luminance when compared with the 12.1" standard panels. So the UltraLight panel would in theory be better usable outsides in shadow places under the greek sun.
On the other side, if set to their fully brightness, the UltraLight panels do wash out the color contrasts due to the higher brighness. But you can always step the brightness some points down on them for inside usage and when using outdoors enhance the brightness accordingly to see more on the screen when used outsides.
Finally it always depends on how and where you use the notebook mostly.

I also keep my brightness levels way down. 15 levels offers a very wide range and I rarely use the highest settings because 1) my eyesight is already bad enough and 2) I like to get every last bit of juice out of the battery. At the lowest settings with wifi off this X61s will go for what seems forever - not being tied to a wall is great. My last(and first) notebook was a $350 rebate depot special that came with vista preloaded. Vista demanded too much of the celeron processor, so I put on XP, but I could not find drivers to control the brightness. Instead I used ATI tray tools to manipulate the color settings to be darker - the panel was on its brightest setting for the three months I used it.
