X6 combo drive noisy playing DVD

I hear the drive spinning up and down every few seconds while playing a DVD movie in WMP. An old laptop had a driver to minimize the drive noise. Is such available for Thinkpad X61S?

go to the power manager (or BIOS) and then put the Optical drive to "Silent"

In power manager it's on the Global Settings tab then click Advanced. Change CDROM to Silent (you might have to reboot for it to fully take effect)
