Using x60 to project slide show

#1 Post by maryt » Fri Aug 17, 2007 6:18 pm

I've made a slideshow for my daughter's wedding Aug 24 using Photoshop Elements on my X60. My daughter says she has a projector for showing the show; all I have to do is hook my computer up. But I've just realized that I have no idea what it will take to make the hook-up. We also have a fairly basic Dell laptop available as well as a TP T41p. Would some kind soul be able to tell me which laptop is apt to give me the best possible pictures, and what sort of cable I need to get to hook the laptop to the projector?

Thanks!

You can use your X60 to the projector. All you need is a simple VGA cable (like the one tou get with your external monitor). I am assuming that the projector is VGA here.

After you connect the cable, press Fn-F7 to bring up the Presentation director and choose the projector option to display your screen on the projector. If the resolution that you get on the projector is not right (i.e if the pic is fuzzy), you might need to set up a custom profile. If you want any help with this, let me know and I'll help you with that.

Thanks, Gator. Time is running out and the river is rising, so I really appreciate your speedy help.

I'm going to get information about the projector this weekend, I hope.

In the meantime, I have several other questions. First, would I use the same video cable to hook the laptop to my HD TV?

Second, I made a VCD of the show and watched it on my HD TV. About a third of the photos are too bright to see many details. I'm ready to go back and edit them, but wonder whether I should do it. Might the brightness vary significantly depending on whether the show is coming from the laptop or a VCD? And will the projector vs. HD TV also affect brightness? I realize that the best way to find out is to try both laptop and VCD with the projector we'll use at the dinner, but I don't have access to them right now and would like to start editing if I can be fairly sure that these variables (laptop/VCD/ projector/HD TV) aren't significant in terms of what shows up on the screen.

Third, if you happen to know, what's the best way to edit for increased detail if the photo seems too bright? I'm an amateur and would try brightness or contrast but if you happen to know, I'd appreciate your advice.

Fourth, your moniker--are you a UF gator by any chance?

Thanks!

Mary
