Zeroshock case for the X61s with 8 cell battery

#1 Post by rcc36x » Thu Aug 23, 2007 10:14 am

Hello. Does anyone have concrete evidence (owns the case and the 8 cell laptop, seen the case and the 8 cell laptop) of what size Zeroshock case to get that best fits the X61s with the 8 cell battery.

Also, does anyone know if the Zeroshock III ($35) is worth it versus the Zeroshock II ($20)? A previous thread mentioned that the III has better waterproofing and a better bubble cushion design, but I haven't been able to verify this anywhere else.

Does it fit? Well, I saw a review where a person commented that they had an X60s with an 8-cell battery in a 12 inch ZeroShock case and it fit.

More evidence:
Interior dimensions (W x D x H): 11.4 x 1.6 x 9.4 inches (290 x 40 x 240 mm) <-- of a ZeroShock 3 from Shinza.com

without X6 UltraBase: 8-cell: 10.5" x 9.4" x 0.8-1.4"; 268mm x 238mm x 20-35mm <--- X61s from TA Book

Looks like it will just fit. Personally, I plan on ordering an 11" ZeroShock for my X61s with a 4-cell battery.

As for ZeroShock 2 vs. 3, I've seen both in person. I can't really say one is better than the other. They both do their job, the ZeroShock 3 just seems more extravagant. However, one observation I can make is that the ZeroShock 2 seems to be able to stretch a bit, while the ZeroShock 3 does not. This is most likely due to the fact that the ZS3 has the outer plastic casing, while the ZS2 doesn't.

Also, the only way to get a ZS2 in the US that I know of is through eBay now.

I should've mentioned in the OP that I saw the dimensions of the X61s with the 8 cell battery (Width – 10.5" Depth – 9.4" Height – 0.8”(Front) / 1.4”(Rear)) and noticed that the width of the 12 inch case is 1 inch larger than the width of the laptop. I've never owned a laptop or had to purchase a case before so I don't know if this 1 inch of wiggle room would be significant.

Not too significant - that boils down to 0.5" on either side. However, you have to realize that the "12-inch case" was made for the older 12-inch laptops which were rather larger than the 12" screens they housed - which accounts for the wiggle room. The X6x series is practically the same size as its 12" screen which is why it's too small for the 12"-case and is why I'm going to get an 11" case. But again, I'm only getting a non-protruding enhanced 4-cell battery - not an 8-cell battery.

My T42 and T60 (both 14") shared the same ZeroShock2 case in which they have a little wiggle room and all was fine - although I don't think it was a total of 1".

I measured my x60t at 10.4 inches on both sides, which is about an inch too wide for 12.1" cases. Are you guys sure they fit? I desperately need a case for my baby.

No. It won't fit an X61T with 8-cell. X61Ts are much larger than X61/s models. =\

If you go to shinza.com look around at the ZeroShocks, they list the interior dimensions of the cases. They have many different sizes.

First hand experience - The 12" will NOT fit a X-series Tablet with 8-cell battery.
