2 Problems I need Help With!!!

So I've used my new x61 tablet for a couple days now and it's great but I've had a couple pretty major issues:
1) When running on the battery, my computer has not responded over a handful of times (freezing when using Word and Firefox and requiring me to actually hold the power button down to shut down) and I read on here that Intel Turbo Memory will do this early on.
Will this always happen or just early on?
Is there anything I can do to fix this? Download latest drivers? Alter setting?
2) My Fingerprint Scanner doesn't work anymore and I have no idea how this occurred!!!
How do I fix this?
Thanks!!

1. Sir, please download
Version 7.5 of the Intel® Matrix Storage Manager. Kindly also run Thinkvantage System Update to download all the latest drivers, critical updates (notably BIOS) and other required applications.
2. You must have disabled something for fingerprint reader. Please check the settings in the BIOS first:
Press F1 on the boot (lenovo display screen), it will lead you into BIOS, check settings under:
Security > Fingerprint Reader and make sure it's enabled.
If it doesn't help then download the latest version of
ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software 5.6.

Thanks for replying!
I checked my BIOS and didn't even see Fingerprint Reader and so downloaded the driver you recommended.
When windows vista prompts me, I just realized that it tells me to "Please connect the fingerprint reader"!!!
What does that mean and how do I do that? I never disconnected it.

By any chance of your using Windows SteadyState?
Seems like a Vista issue to me, please uninstall the Thinkvantage Fingerprint reader completely from the Add/Remove programs (Uninstall a program under Programs in Windows Vista) first, restart your machine and then reinstall it again.
If the above doesn't help then I suggest on doing a factory restore after backing up all your important data on an external media. If it still won't work after that then I would further suggest on calling IBM support Center at 1-800-426-7378 (24/7)!
Good Luck.

I don't know what SteadyState is.
When the login screen loads, it says "Please connect the fingerprint reader" and when I try to view the fingerprint tutorial it says "Cannot find the fingerprint sensor device"
I uninstalled and reinstalled and that didn't work!
Has this happened to anyone else? Any other help because I really don't want to call IBM for this problem. :/

Sir, I truly believe this is due to some conflict / override of drivers. So as suggested before, please perform a factory restore, hopefully that will solve the problem.
If in case that doesn't help then please disconnect / reconnect the Fingerprint reader UltraNav pad cable following
these instructions.
If in case that still doesn't help then please also take a look at similar issues like
this and
this.
You should also make sure you have the latest version of BIOS and can as well try uninstalling CSS to see whether it's not the one causing any conflict.
You can also look into
this document for some information too.
I hope the Fingerprint reader works after doing all of the above mentioned instructions but if it still doesn't then please call IBM Support Center at 1-800-426-7378 (24/7)!.
Good Luck!

Have you disabled any of the the USB devices? The fingerprint reader is attached to an internal one.

Not to my knowledge...
I downloaded some stuff from a ThinkVantage update and I think after that period, my fingerprint stopped working.
Problem is, I can't SYSTEM RESTORE through Windows for some reason!!!
Grrrr...I really don't want to backup and do a factory install because I tweaked and downloaded so much stuff on this computer!

Factory Re-Install did NOT fix the problem!!!
I can't believe it. Still says the fingerprint reader is not connected. I'm currently on hold with IBM.

Sir, did you disconnet / reconnect the cable as well? Contacting IBM on this is a better option though. You even have an option to take it to any nearest IBM authorized repair center in your local area.

No, I didn't disconnect the cable because that seemed a bit complicated.
I'm so distraught...I need my computer as I'm in law school and the box won't come to pick up my computer until Tuesday.

Sir, sorry I thought you had a non tablet version of X61. Please do not tempt yourself to follow the removal procedure I mentioned above, that's merely for X60/X61/s.
The delay from IBM EasyServ is because of long weekend, however once Solectron receives your machine, you can expect to receive it back in maximum of 5 business days.
Good Luck!

My X41 had exactly the same problem with the fingerprint reader when it was brand new. I had to send it back. They sent me a new one.
They never told me what the problem was, but I think it was most likely a connection problem or failure of the sensor electronics.

in the last week or so, my x61 (now a few months old) started behaving oddly. It now freezes while using firefox, or outlook, and the only way to reboot is to hold down the power button.
Have you solved that issue yet?
I have done all lenovo and windows updates, yet still have this problem. I have no idea on what triggers the freeze.
