Just got my X61, trying to do a clean reinstall of Vista. When you use Rescue & Recovery to do a custom install, it lets you select which programs you want to install (most of which are bloatware). However, there is one called "Vista-Performance Manager", and I'm not sure what it is.
Does anybody know what this is? Is it made by Lenovo or MS? Is it really necessary? Or just nice to have? Tech support only gave me a vague description of, saying that Vista is slower without it... sounds like BS to me.

Sir, Vista Performance Manager Screen is part of Microsoft Windows Vista but is included on lenovo base software selector as an option and it won't hurt your system to have it.

really? how come I can't find any information on the web about this component of Microsoft Vista? all google searches for "Vista Performance Manager" come up with links mentioning Lenovo... and mostly the X61.
what does it do? is it something that's always running in the background, sucking processor? it may not hurt, but does it help? the AOL links littered all over the desktop don't really hurt, either... but they sure don't help.
please excuse the cynicism... it's just frustrating how much bloatware there is preinstalled on this thing, and it's difficult to sort wheat from chaff... and it's impossible to get any real information about this component.
