Hmmm, considering its built into the screen, kinda hard for me to do...

X60 Tablet w/ Vista

Shows at the welcome screen and obviously, no longer lets me login with my finger.

Laptop is a ripe old 3 months old.

I hope you've already tried to reboot - I got the error this morning after resuming from hybernation, rebooted, and voila, everything is working.

I have the same issue with my X61 tablet and I have to send it in to IBM.

if you are waking up from sleep or hibernation, restart or wait a little while. the fingerprint reader takes a little while to wake up, take a shower and eat breakfast, before going to work.

Yep..there is a Vista Patch for this!!!I would imagine they have one for XP as well...

Make sure it is enabled in you BIOS!

Unfortunately as MORE things get added to these machines on what seems a DAILY basis; the more problem we can have down the road...just too many things under one package!

IIRC, some T4x users were reporting problems with USB, where it kept reverting back to USB 1. A fresh install seemed to fix it for a short time, but then the problem would come back. Other users said a motherboard replacement was the fix. AFAIK, the fingerprint reader is a USB device. Maybe these problems are related?
