I need to find one for my incoming X61 Tablet. :)

Do you guys every carry it stand alone?

Anyone use something like this?

Would this allow easy convertability from Tablet mode to laptop mode?

(3) the X61t with BOTH the regular battery and extended battery at the same time, or
(4) the X61t with BOTH 8-cell and extended battery at the same time

due to the way the flap closes and the inherent flexibility of the material. This is an invaluable feature for me. Plus they have the Thinkpad livery. However, beware - it seems like only the OLD-STYLE cases of this type, which are slightly larger and have a thicker foam protection, will fit the X61t. These are very hard to find now. All the ones currently being sold on eBay are of the new type - and when I ordered one, it didn't fit. (I also have one of the older style ones, which does fit, but which is now slightly damaged and I would like to replace it.)

If anyone knows where these sleeves can be found (other than eBay), I would be very appreciative (I believe they may originally have been sold only in Japan).

Thanks for that info. I was about to jump on board and order one until you said the new ones don't fit.

Why is it so difficult to find a fitting sleeve that is not too big? I guess I could go for a zeroshock 14" sleeve, but that seems like it would be too loose.

It seems like the waterfield is one of the few easy options. Most other choices are hard to find or not 100% fit.

The Zeroshock seems nice, but too bad apparently it doesn't fit.

How's the protection around the zipper areas? I noticed that some sleeves with zippers don't really protect laptop from the zipper.

Didn't bring the laptop to the office today. I'll check and take some pics tonight.

Don't recall there to be too much padding where the zippers are, but I'm not too concerned as it's the battery and handle end.

edit: padding around the zipper area is the same as rest of the sides. very protective.

Length wise, there's about 1/2 inch or less play on each end..width is maxed out...

My main purpose for this case is to protect from cosmetic damages..sfbag is waay too much for me...shipping alone is prob more then what i paid for the sumdex total...

Regarding the Sumdex PUN-812 ImpactGuard sleeve, does it really fit an 8-cell X61t? I have a Sumdex PUN-852 which fits the X61t perfectly except that the battery sticks out the top (so the zipper cannot be closed).

From the Sumdex web site, it appears that the only difference between these sleeves is that the PUN-812 is 12.75" wide and the PUN-852 is 11.5" wide --- I don't need the sleeve to be wider, I need it to be taller. Since there is no change in sleeve height, it appears that the 8-cell battery of the X61t would still stick out the top of the PUN-812.

Let me know if I am wrong as I really like the ImpactGuard sleeve and would like to get one that the 8-cell X61t can fit inside.

I bought a different Sumdex sleeve recently and it's pretty great. Because it's got a flap and not a zipper, I can just wrap the flap over the edge and it still velcros shut. I'm glad I went with the Sumdex instead of the cheap soft ones from eBay because it feels really solid without being heavy; I feel confident that I'm getting some good protection out of it. I was also clumsy enough to accidentally test it recently; my computer took a ~3ft drop and there's no apparent damage, although it landed pretty flat.

Still, I can vouch for the Sumdex brand, and my sleeve will close. The battery is a tiny bit exposed but that doesn't really concern me.

I am stupid with it, though. I use the sleeve in a very small messenger bag which barely fits even an X-series, and I typically leave the sleeve open and use the velcro on the sleeve with a strip of velcro I attached on the inside of the bag to hold it secure. The sleeve doesn't deform so I can take the computer out with one hand. While this is convenient for inserting and removing the laptop, it means my entire battery sticks out, protected only by the very thin flap of the messenger bag. Unless I somehow manage to drop the bag upside-down, which seems impossible for even a klutz like me, it would be hard to damage much more than the battery, but it's your call on whether you'd do that. Still, that's me being dumb, not any flaw of the sleeve's.

For ~$15 with shipping, I'd say it was money well-spent.
