create recovery cd's for X61 using shared optical drive

Hi all,
I just got my X61s today with Vista and I wanted to revert back to XP. However, I want to make a set of recovery cd's for Vista first. I don't have a dock, so I figured I could share my desktop's optical drive over the network to create the CDs. So far I've shared the optical drive and I can access the optical drive from my laptop. When I try to create the recovery CDs, it asks for an optical drive from a pull down menu, but the shared network drive isn't there and I have no option to browse for it. Can anyone help me out?
Thanks
