Extended desktop display settings keep changing!

#1 Post by gdavis » Thu Sep 06, 2007 12:36 pm

I have my x61tablet on my desk in its ultrabase using it as the primary monitor, for inking and other. I'm using Vista and have 4 megs RAM.

Next to it (on the left side) is my 22" wxga monitor 1680 x 1050 res.

It works great and my mouse moves from screen to screen fine until do either of 2 things-

- remove the tablet from the ultrabase, and then replace it (nothing was turned off in the process), or
- shutting the computer down for the night, then restarting in the morning (sometimes not a problem, other times it is)

The problem is that the left/right extended desktop becomes a right/left desktop instead after this situation. Does anyone know more about how to fix this?????

There are 2 places where the setting is possible for the display relationship and settings- one is in Vista display properties, and the other is in Intel Chipset Graphics control window, each of which I can set the displays as extended and the left/right positions of each.

(sorry if this is a repeat thread, but I searched and couldn't find another one).

I found a 3rd app which manages the display settings!

3rd- Thinkvantage software has a series of options for multiple displays

2nd- Intel graphics chipset management chipset

1st- Vista display settings

There must be some conflicts with these multiple programs trying to control or wrestle with each other.

Hasn't anyone had this issue when using the extended monitor at a desk situation?

If you're using an extended display/multiple monitors, what settings do you have in each of these apps to keep them in control between undocking and redocking?

This happens to me as well...everytime the laptop sleeps, is shutdown, or otherwise is removed from the dock.

I have tried to modify all 3 setting areas for this with no luck as well...

I have the same problems as well, with a X60.

The settings are not "remembered" as well. But other times, it remembers after I had powered it on out of the ultrabay.

One of the major issues I have is that if you have an ext. monitor plugged in, during BIOS boot up, the POST screen will go to the external monitor, despite BIOS settings being "LCD".

Long back when I had a Compaq n610c I tried to solve a similar problem. I can remember if I got the solution but essentially at the time it pointed to an application called QuickSet or xxxxxSet. Cant remember. Mostly I remember it being mentioned on notebookforums.com

the only way I have been able to deal with this is setting up a profile in thinkpad presentation director, then everytime I re-dock, I hit "fn" and the corresponding presentation director button on the thinkpad keyboard. Takes about 4 seconds including waiting for windows to re-adjust everything.

fantastic!

comage, thanks for your post. I had actually found a fourth and fifth place where the display settings are managed-

4th- Vista Mobile Settings for Displays

5th- Presentation Mode settings (Vista)

Can this be used on a Vista machine like my X61t? The MS download site only says it's for XP. But you all make out like this is the solution we've been needing. Has anyone instailled this on a Vista machine with positive results?
