Does anyone use DVD with Ultrabase when traveling?

X60/X61 series specific matters only.

Does anyone use DVD with Ultrabase when traveling?

#1 Post by spasell » Thu Sep 27, 2007 11:04 am

I was just wondering if anyone had the DVD drive for the Tablet and used it with the Ultrabase when FLYING or traveling? I think at some point someone mentioned that they used it with the Ultrabase in Tablet mode, which is strange, since it would make it hard to watch the movie without angling the Ultrabase up a little. I'm wondering how you would pull this off...

I have a Sony DVD drive as well that plugs into the USB on my x61, but it's cumbersome AND you need to plug the [censored] thing in. I'm flying from Providence, RI to San Francisco in a couple weeks and wanted to take a couple movies with me. Tablet mode would be great for when that person in front of me leans all the way back and I cannot leave the computer open up. Thoughts?

Don't take the DVDs. Just rip the movies onto your hard drive. Follow these instructions.
Microsoft Surface 3 (Atom x7-Z8700 / 4GB / 128GB / LTE)
Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)
Acer T272HUL; Crossover 404K; Dell 3008WFP, U2715H, U2711, P2416D; Monoprice 10734; QNIX QHD2410R; Seiki Pro SM40UNP

LOL. Sounds like a good idea but your intro of "it's pretty easy" is kind of funny after you list a TON of things you need to have/buy/ and do to make this work.

I'm wondering who uses the Ultrabase when traveling for DVD viewing if anyone and how you use or if you use it in Tablet mode.

There is nothing to buy. All you need are two (free) programs and follow the instructions. I'm heading to NYC in a few days and for that trip I have burned two seasons of Married with Children and the 3rd season of Stargate Atlantis onto my T42's hard drive.

Rip your movies into .iso files and use Daemon Tools ...this is the best combo ever for an X owner.

Also...
tablet in slate mode + multi-touch screen = movie watching perfection

So I guess this means that no one is using the Ultrabase for DVD's? Guess I'll have to rip em then

Not when traveling. The ultrabase is intended to be left at home so that the traveler doesn't have to lug around a heavy laptop.
