X61s and X60s batteries not compatible?

#1 Post by iamdmc » Thu Sep 27, 2007 3:54 pm

So I was looking at the VisaPerks.ca offer for an X60 series 8 cell enhanced battery + 1GB Memory key for $94, and called Lenovo.ca to order it. The sales agent told me that "it has to be a slim line battery to fit my system" and that they didn't have any 8-cell slim line enhanced batteries for sale in Canada.

So I checked the Lenovo.com site and searched for a battery for "X61" (since there was no X61s option) and "7668" for my model number. Up came the battery "X60 series 8 cell high capacity battery"
P/N: 40Y7003. The offer at Visaperks.ca had a different part number, but I'm guessing that it's because it comes with a 1GB memory key.

So what's the deal? I don't get it - a lenovo.ca representative tells me it won't fit, then the Lenovo.com website recommends seemingly the same battery. So where can I just buy this thing? I'm very much in need of another battery.

The Lenovo rep was mistaken. Batteries for the X60 and X61 are interchangeable.

There is only one 'slim line' battery and it is 4-cell and sits flush with the back of the notebook and weighs the least of any battery.

Just place your order online from visaperks.ca

I'd like for a few more people to weigh in before I do, but I'd really like to buy that battery. I've heard of some people having problems with fitting X60 batteries into X61s laptops (I see auctions on eBay of this sort of thing every so often) and I don't want to be in the same boat.

Anyone using X60 batteries in the X61s?

That's funny because I was just getting ready to order a spare battery for my x61 and noticed that there is not one listed for it. If you are sure that the x60 fits the x61 because you own an x61 I'd do it.

There is no 8 cell enhanced battery, there is only 8 cell high capacity battery (cylindric) [fits all X6x/s non tablet machines]

Enhanced battery is only available in 4 cell. (cylindric) [fits all X6x/s non tablet machines]

Slim Line Battery is only available in 4 cell (prismatic) and fits only X60s/X61s. It does not fit X60/X61 due to the bigger mass of fan construction on those machines.

4 cell Extended Life Battery goes into the X6 Ultrabase and the Ultrabase is same for all X6x/s non tablet machines.

8 cell tablet battery does not fit non tablet X6x/s machines.

When I go to the Lenevo website, and I enter in TYPE # on my machine, and then search for batteries, it brings up the slimline 4 cell battery. I have a x61.

So does everyone agree that only the "slim line 4 cell" battery is the one that doesn't work on the X61, but WILL work on the X61s and X60s?

Also, does everyone agree that there is only one type of 8-cell battery and that it will fit the X60, X60s, X61, and X61s?

Never mind. I went back, re-entered my machine type, and got back this: http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/cont ... umber=7764

I just ordered a new X61s with an extra 8-cell battery from Lenovo. They shipped an X60 8-cell battery.P/N 40Y7003.

This is the only one there is.
