I'm about to order myself a new laptop. And i'm torn between X60T or X61T. I'm really after an SXGA+ display so that limits my options.

I can buy a X61T from lenovo.com with the display for around 2300. But it's pretty basic, only 1gb memory Or i can order one on ebay. but the only one i found apparently has a 200GB hard drive (7200rpm) and 4gb of ram.

ebay Item number: 120165880696

Or I can get an X60T with 4gb ram and 100gb hard drive and the older SXGA+ display. for around 2100. maybe i can find a better deal if i look harder.

ebay Item number: 190156549490

What do you experts suggest that i go for? What are the pros and cons of the X61 vs the X60?

Since you want the SXGA+ screen: unless you have solid reasons for the X61t over the X60t (battery stretch doesn't count, turbo memory barely does either), I would recommend the X60t.

I have used both, and am using the X61t because it has the slightly faster processor. The "Superview" SXGA+ of the X61t is a negative for me, though, because it shows fingerprints and handprints much much worse than the X60t's SXGA+ screen does. I ended up having to buy a Smudgeguard to help ink effectively.

I don't know where you are shopping, but $2300 for an x61t sxga is WAAAY TOOO MUCH. Wait for some sales for goodness sake.

I got mine from the lenovo site for $1531.50 delivered. Specs are:
x61t, fingerprint, vista business, sxga+, 2gb ram, 1 gb turbo mem, 80gb hd, Intel ABG, bluetooth, and an extra tablet pen. I caught the sale plus extra 15% off coupon, plus I purchased during the August back-to-school tax-free holiday, plus they had a free shipping deal. Timing is everything.

If I had to do it over again, I would have bought a bigger hd and either more memory or XP instead of vista. But then I'm running vmware and doing Oracle software development, so I'm trying to squeeze two running Virtual Machines into an already bloated OS environment. In the last week, I broke down and purchased an hitachi 7k200 (200gb) drive and I bought the downgrade XP disks from lenovo. Even with that extra money spent I'm still below $1800.

You must be buying the x6 doc and an optical drive or something? Super thin USB dual-layer dvd opticals can be had for $64 on ebay. I don't miss not having a docking station, but then I rarely work at a desk. If your goal is to save money, skip the docking station and optical drive from Lenovo. Suitable alternatives for those exist for less than $100.

Oh and sxga+ ROCKS!
