Keyboard scratching screen on X61s
Keyboard scratching screen on X61s
Hi.
I have a Thinkpad X61s 7669-27G (Portuguese) and my space key is scratching my LCD when the lid is closed.
I have this TP since June but only noticed it now.
I've tried cleaning it and it wont come of.
Does anyone know if the warranty covers this and if this happens often?
Should I use a cloth between the keyboard and the screen?
Thanks.
Ricardo

Avoid getting it pressed tightly while carrying in your bag, a pressure resistant sleeve will do the job.ctrler wrote:snip..........I would still would like to know if this happens frequently..

If you put it in your bag with a bunch of heavy books and such that will push on the laptop then the screen will get scratched.
I put the keyboard cover in my machine many times during the day, it's really very painless. It just like taking the machine out of it's sleeve - soemthing you do about without thinking.

I bought one of the Shaggymac covers for my X60. I haven't used it because it seems to cause the hinges to creak when I close the lid. I thought that it might be just a bit too thick and I was concerned that it would cause a problem with the hinges and latch mechanism.

this is interesting because I noticed that my brand new x61s had a single dot/mark on the screen, exactly where the left side of the space bar is located (spot on with the magnifier symbol).
Lenovo did not place a piece of foam between the screen and keyboard, so I think the mark occurred during transport. It's tiny though, like the dot on the letter "i" size, so I am not going to replace it. It looks like the space bar is the only key that touches the screen. But I am using a shaggymac cover and it is really wonderful. best keyboard cover on the market.

Mine had the scratches in the exact same place, left side of the space key.roblim wrote:this is interesting because I noticed that my brand new x61s had a single dot/mark on the screen, exactly where the left side of the space bar is located (spot on with the magnifier symbol).
I saw that the space key was raised a bit above the other keys.
I'm waiting for it to come back from repair on Monday or Tuesday, hope they'll fix it but I'll start using a keyboard cover just to be safe.
Still, I think it's a big design flaw that this happens.

Yeah, the left side of the space bar is raised a bit above th eother keys. Design defect? Anyways, using the shaggymac cover is a good idea. I had previous thinkpads where the red rubber trackpoint cover would rub the screen and leave a mark. There's just a few mm of space between the keyboard and screen, any pressure on the screen even from just putting the laptop in a sleeve can press them together, then rubbing occurs (usually from riding in my car) and you have marks.
We have used the Shaggymac laptop screen protector with our fleet of X60's & T43's with great results. In fact, I think all 48 laptops have flawless screens.think2much wrote:I bought one of the Shaggymac covers for my X60. No marks, no smudges, no notorious trackpoint scratches. Also highly recommend the Shaggymac Optimist Prime lcd cleaner.
This is a common problem, and has been pointed out many times.
