X61s with L7700? UEFI compliant?

#1 Post by lakeside » Wed Oct 03, 2007 12:18 pm

I tried to find out whether the X61S is actually available with the L7700 processor as announced by Lenovo:
http://www-01.ibm.com/common/ssi/cgi-bi ... anguage=en
Calling Lenovo's hotline however only produces "what is that, we sell only what is available".
Any information would be appreciated.
Also, does anybody know whether the X61s does now support UEFI, or whether it can at least be activated by a firmware update later. Also questions Lenovo is unable or unwilling to answer.
thanks.
If someone would on top of that know how a Thinkpad could be ordered with another standard keyboard (instead of the US keyboard) this would be great. Lenovo - again - knows nothing about "other" keyboards.

1. You can call in again to order X61s with L7700, few members here have already ordered theirs.

2. I am not sure why would you term lenovo unwilling when someone was unable to answer your query.

Lenovo is a member of UEFI and fully supports it:

3. In a country where 215 million population consists of native English speakers, a company thinks in the best interest of the majority. Nevertheless, lenovo do think about those with non English keyboard requirements, but you have to order it separately through IBM parts website or phone it in:

Keyboard service parts - ThinkPad X60, X60s, X61, X61s

IBM parts

to 3: thanks for the link. there are of course a few million non-english native speakers as well and it would be nice if someone would care about them as well. It works in countries with much fewer non-native language speakers so why should it not be possible in the US.

to 1 & 2:
unwilling or unable is not of importance to me, but if Lenovo lists products as deliverable with L7700, then i expect an answer to "where can I buy".
Yes, I read that someone ordered it by phone. I am not yet ready to order, but when I contacted the sales number, they clearly told me we cannot sell with L7700, we don't have it. We can only sell what is on the website. And that I find annoying.

Re UEFI. I can only state that I have not found any answer to this question. In fact I even queried Intel whether any 965 chipset has UEFI built into it or is at least compliant through a later firmware update. They told me they could not/were not allowed to tell me. This sound like nonsense, but it happened to me. So If anyone knows for sure, I would be very glad to now. Of course Lenovo should know, at least according to Intel "you have to ask the motherboard manufacturers". So someone at Lenovo please!
