Vista Taskbar "BURN-IN" on Lenovo X61T SXGA+

#1 Post by jmphillips » Fri Oct 19, 2007 2:41 am

I recently installed Unbuntu (just to check it out) and when it was done installing it had a light background for the desktop and I noticed that I could see a faint ghost image of my Vista Taskbar where there should be nothing. I guess this won't be a problem if I continue to use vista - but is this normal??? Should there be burn-in in this type of LCD display?

What do you guys think? Support Call?

Burn-in is unlikely on these screens, are you sure it is not simply backlight leak resulting in a small section at the bottom being lighter or can you actually see the details of the taskbar?

Mine doesn't have any burn in, but I've heard of it with other LCD displays. I believe it goes away pretty quickly.

Its not burn-in. Its "image persistance".

They do have methods to get rid of it.

For its LCD "burn ins" Samsung recommends playing "snow" (ie. what you see if there's nothing on that channel on TV) for 5-10 minutes, then turning off the screen for a while. If you're able to download "snow" or maybe just run some screen diagnostic programs that cycle through programs, patterns, etc. you can refresh your LCD.

So...it's NOT hurting anything then...? Because I leave my laptop on almost all the time...I always have with every laptop...heck, every computer I have owned...and I don't use screen savers...but I have NEVER seen this before...so by METHODS you mean that I would have to send it in for repair...there is nothing I could do to fix it correct?

And actually, as long as it's not damaging it, does it need to be fixed? I don't really care because I plan to continue using vista and therefore will always have the start-bar there anyway so...I don't know that it is that big of a deal unless it's really damaging the screen or something...right?
