Hi guys,

I was wondering how often dead pixels occur (in your experience) when ordering from Lenovo. Reason for asking is that i'm planning to buy a X61s (non-light screen) pretty soon. But in the Netherlands these laptops are pretty hard to come by (not to mention expensive) and in general have to be ordered from business-only vendors (especially when you want a Lenovo Topseller-deal). Meaning dead-pixel insurance is either unavailable or very expensive... (only found one so far which was 125 euro = about 177 dollars for 14 days return on dead pixel.). So... i'd like somehow to estimate my chances of getting a laptop with (a) dead pixel(s) by asking you to share your experiences on this subject... So I can make a well formed judgement on the subject before spending a lot of money on something which might only rarely occur.

(edit) Ofcourse i'm also interested in stuck active pixels etc.

I've had one dead pixel in 6 machines. Mr. Morrow arranged a replacement for a quite reasonable fee. (I took my chances and lost )

Four of my machines are SXGA. The 2 XGA machines (T40 and X61s) have been fine as have 3 SXGA T42 (including the replacement) and one SXGA T23.

Received X61S two weeks ago, zero dead pixels.

Annoying contrast though and viewing angles, it doesn't compare with the screen on my "low quality" Dell inspiron.

One dead pixels is usually a non-issue. You don't notice it and it doesn't bother you, unless you ask for it to.

It is a crap shoot.

My experience with the X Series

X24 - No dead or stuck pixels
X40 - 1 stuck pixel
X61 - 1 stuck pixel (two days old)

T Series

Purchased 5 T60 Notebooks for my sales staff. No stuck or dead pixels.

I already ordered and have just received my new x61s and as far as early inspection shows i have no dead pixels... and as far as i have been able to tell no stuck pixels either. I think i'll skip the scrutinous examination of my screen because once you know where they are your eyes can't help wander there. Gotta love head in the sand tactics. Anyways i created a set of recovery DVD's and am now running those to see if they work to satisfaction and then i'll be throwing vista of and will create a XP-Prof/Ubuntu Gutsy dual boot. Because vista performance even though it was suprisingly good still didn't feel quite as snappy as XP/Ubuntu.

Update... My X61s did develop one hot pixel (stuck pixel color white).. It's really not that noticable except when you're in a dark room then it sticks out somewhat... It could possibly just be a stuck sub-pixel because it's hardly noticable on a black background (just slightly greyish spot when looking under the right angle). Anyways i've tried some tools that supposedly fix stuck pixels but no luck yet. Does anyone here have some experience fixing stuck pixels? If yes please comment here what you used and how you went about it.

i noticed this few minutes ago...my x61 has developed a blue color dead pixel [ at least thts what i think it is ]..its right above the windows xp logo while booting up..i can see tht blue color thingy right from boot up..though it was just one, it kind of frightened me..

any views about this, and wht should i be doing!!??

p.s. my laptop is 4 months old..

anybody here?? any views about the above post is greatly appreciated..

There's really not much you can do... A single live pixel isn't covered in the warranty.

There are some utils out there that claim to unstuck live pixels by means of rotating the colors very fast. I tried them but it didn't do much for me. The other option is to gently massage the live pixel with the soft end of a cue tip. That's been known to help in some cases... (although once again it did nothing for my live pixel).

In general though live pixels just don't pop up out of no where especially if you're using it for a while now. The chances of you getting more dead pixels than the one dead pixel you have now are slim.
