I am thinking about buying an X61T with MultiTouch and Verizon Wireless and have a couple of questions. I know the specs on the display say indoor/outdoor but is it bright enough to use in a car? I am also wondering if the CDMA2000 card will be "Rev A"?

I haven't tried it - so take my advice with a grain of salt, but.

It is not any brighter than the other thinkpads - and they are practically useless outdoors. I can sometimes use them in a shady part of the back seat near the floor away from windows.

The anti-glare/anti reflective on the multitouch probably don't help the fact that these displays simply wash out in sunlight.

For real outdoor use, you need a transflective display or 500+ nits. I am a die-hard thinkpad user - but if you need outdoor use, I would look to the Dell ATG or a Panasonic Toughbook.

Too bad they don't offer SXGA+ in multitouch flavor, and I can't afford more than the two I've already got.

It would take some creativity on your part though. Nicest approach I see is bolting a vertical ultrabase to an adjustable retention arm (caravan electronic outfit shops - places that sell TVs, GPSs for caravans etc - typically have these), and add some strap-around industrial-level velcro straps to make the tablet sit firm on the base even when your car bounces around.

Brightness will be no problem. My current carPC runs an 8'' Lilliput touch screen which is less bright than my X, and is good enough to work on. The X will be smack on.

By the way, my current carpc screen is mounted just so - a two-universal-joint arm mounted to the dash, riveted to the back of the monitor, allowing the screen to look up or down, at driver or at passenger, and when its looking at someone rather than down, its underneath attaches to velcro on the dash. Considering it's a bouncy old 4WD, the screen is dead-firm in place even when I go offroad.

Admittedly, it weighs half and is 60% the size of a tablet, and not everyone has a table-like dashboard to plonk it on

Thanks for the replies......I REALLY want this to work. I currently have a T60P with 15.4 wsxga+. If I tried it in my car could I expect better or worse performance from the MutliTouch?

I had posted earlier regarding the x61 (non tablet). Now I am considering a Tablet because I need one as a demo for medical offices. I have never had my hands on a MultiTouch. I am a Lenovo reseller so I can't return it if I don't like it.

I'm just looking for opinions from people that have the product.

X61 SXGA+ and XGA Tablet PC's were the thinkpads we had in our team for a while and I seemed to have found the former more brighter.

No problem at all.....Correct me if I am wrong but you can't get an SXGA+ MultiTouch, can you? That would be nice as a I do like higher resolution. Any rumors of one soon?

They exist, lenovo releases many models time-to-time which consumers never get any air about.

I'll throw out some feelers about this topic to the sales rep and report back.

Don't consider a non-multitouch for a CarPC

In a car your primary means of operating a PC as a driver is finger-driven touch-interface, and even then with software that boasts big buttons, correctly positioned (typically along the edges of the screen so you only need to orient yourself on one axis, as finding the edge your fingers do automatically) etc.

There is an entire community around such software for the PC - Map Monkey etc.

Are you sure that eBay machine has both SXGA+ and MultiTouch? If you click the More detailed specs link in the listing, it shows "WVA SXGA+ TFT SuperView" just like all the other SXGA+ X61t's. There's no mention of MultiTouch.

Its anyone's guess what you'll actually get, but the specs you linked are for:

The 7767CTO, in turn, is a ghost product does not exist almost anywhere, which is to say anywhere except In IBM parts lists:

i am doing this now, and you will need to tint your windows but on very bright days it will be a little difficult to use. If you look at the multi touch demo on tabletpcreview, he compares it to the other screen types outdoors and should give you a really good idea of what you are up against.

I just ordered it.....As it turns out I have a customers that is looking for 20-40 of them and I need a demo model anyway. If I don't like it I can just sell it to them...lol
I was going to try my T60P in the car but it has been raining everyday (which we needed so much)....

The terrible thing about Lenovo and the way they work with resellers is I bought it off the retail site with coupon for much less than I can buy as a reseller.

If it doesn't work out I think I'll try the x61s ultralight.

Let me clarify.......I ordered the standard xga Multitouch. The reps told me that no sxga+ was available.
