screen protection for X series Thinkpad

#1 Post by wolfman » Tue Oct 23, 2007 9:55 pm

I've seen a few references over the years here to folks placing a thin mat or other material between the keyboard and the screen on X series models to keep the keys from leaving marks on the screen.

Does anyone have any links to products they've used for this purpose or ideas on what I could use? Thanks!

This one:

Appears to be the best choice based on my extensive web research. Mine just showed up today and I left my x61s at the office - so tomorrow I can post and tell you if it really fits. :D

This is also what I bought. Fits great. Probably the most satisfaction I have gotten out of a 12" piece of cloth.

Thanks guys, that looks to be exactly what I was after. Even looks like the example on the page is a Thinkpad...and they are right down the street from me in Lancaster, PA!

I still am impressed with how small this X model is - and yet very comfortable to type on. Very impressive.

Oops - I'll bet I posted a few times last night too. Same error.

I tried mine today. Fits great. I got a 14" one too for my T42.

Is the ShaggyMac thick? Do you have to force the screen to close in an X61s?
I bought one thats not the ShaggyMac that could also be used as a mouse pad (really thin mouse pad) and notice that I had to force the screen to close, just a bit, like the final 5 mm, but I would prefer one that I wouldn't have to do that.

Thanks for the help.

.8mm

I have seen others that are .6mm - but the Shaggymac is not an issue at all - the lid just closes.

Yep, I agree, got mine a few days ago. The packaging does recommend to carefully place it away from the hinge and clasp area - and I noticed that if I am careful to do that and not have it too far back it works very nicely and closes with no issues.

OK - I take it back. I've been having problems with the battery being dead. I think that the ShaggyMac is pressing the power button and turning the machine back on after I hibernate it.

I've tried cutting an opening in the ShaggyMac where the power button is. That seems to have fixed it. If not - I will follow-up post in a few days.

I am now using a protecting sheet made of some sort of Styrofoam that came between the screen and the keyboard of my other laptop. I'm having no problems and the lid closes without offering resistance.

Lenovo exchanged my screen and keyboard in virtue of my complaints about the keyboard scratching the screen and I don't want to scratch this new one so I hope this sheet is enough.
