Spill-resistant Keyboard: Yes
Casing: Magnesium Alloy
There is no lcd roll cage, for a notebook that weighs merely around 2.7lb (with a battery) and mainly targeted for users looking for ultimate mobility in a versatile ultraportable box with a powerful battery life nearly good for all day computing, it's practically impossible unless more weight is added to it.
Now, you as a consumer will need to ask yourself about what really you're looking for? a very well built robust system with a balance of performance and portability (T-series) or an extremely mobile, light weight machine delivering performance with a great battery life?

Are you referring to the Active Protection System for the hard drive? All Thinkpads have it.

I apologize for being misleading. I meant all current Thinkpads have Active Protection. Among the X series, the X40 was the first to have this technology. So, the X31 doesn't have it. The X32 also doesn't, even though I think it was introduced shortly after the X40.
Perhaps its absence in the T40 makes it the lightest T-series model.

The sensor only weighs about a gram - the rest is software.
