When I just purchased my X61, I would always see the volume level indicator on the screen when I pressed volume buttons on the keyboard. After I installed XP, however, I don't see that indicator anymore even those volume buttons do work. How do I bring that indicator back?

You need hotkey drivers, ACPI Power Management drivers and display drivers from lenovo to make it work.

After installation, follow this:

Right Click on Desktop > Properties > Settings > Advanced > On Screen Display > and make OSD is check-marked.

Thanks! What other hot keys is this driver used for?

The hotkey driver is used for the following:
Fn + F5 to turn wireless and/or bluetooth on or off.
Fn + F7 to open Presentation Director for switching displays.
Fn + F9 to open EasyEject for turning off removeable hardware (like the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the System Tray)

I think the other hotkeys work whether the driver is installed or not:
Fn + F3 for turning off the monitor
Fn + F4 for entering Standby
Fn + F12 for entering Hibernation
Fn + Home for increasing the display brightness
Fn + End for decreasing the display brightness
Fn + PgUp for turning the ThinkLight on or off
