X61s LCD bezel loose
X61s LCD bezel loose
Greetings.
Just got my X61s. All works fine except for a slight cosmetic issue. On the top right hand corner, near the hinge, there is slight gap between the plastic bezel. It's not horrible but it makes creaking noises each time I try to close and open the lid.
Anyone else with this issue? I guess I can superglue the two sides but I doubt that this is a long term solution.

Do NOT glue anything ... If I understand your description correctly, then you are looking at the unit with the LCD closed. Open the unit and the area you are describing should be at the top right hand side of the keyboard, near the [Home] key. If so, there are two possibilities for the gap between the LCD bezel and the LCD cover:
1) one or both of the screws for the bezel in that corner are loose/missing, or
2) the antenna wire inside the LCD cover is guided incorrectly and is inhibiting the bezel from "snapping" into place .
Open the LCD, remove the round screw cover at the bottom right of the LCD panel (just above the [PgUp] key, and remove the rectangular screw cover on the side of the LCD panel just above the [PgUp] key. Remove the two exposed screws, re-seat them, and screw them down while you pinch/hold the bezel tight in place against the back cover.
Good luck!

Instead of fixing it yourself and not end up breaking up a part or two, I suggest on contacting IBM EasyServ or your local IBM authorized repair center.

Darn I should have waited but I got impatient and tried superglue. It sort of worked but not really. Here are pictures of the gap. My finger nail is keeping the gap open. This is top right corner of X61s.EOMtp wrote:Do NOT glue anything ... If I understand your description correctly, then you are looking at the unit with the LCD closed. Well, that's not near the "hinge" as you stated originally. It is near the "latch."sbkim wrote:I welcome any advice....
Turn the open unit around so that the open top of the LCD points at your belly, place your index finger on the inside of the bezel (your hand coming from the top of the LCD) and pull slightly up, out, and then down, and the bezel will literally "snap" into place.
Don't let the glue experiment bother you. A new bezel is inexpensive, and you can replace it easily if the glue-induced cosmetics bother you. A new bezel will mask whatever needs to be masked.

I have a X61 and this is a problem I experience too. I'm kind of disappointed with the build of the LCD bezel. The part of the bezel near the latch is able to move/wriggle freely, causing creaks when you press on the lid (when it is closed). This is a stark difference to a T61 that I've tried to take apart. The T61 's bezel is just solid ("superglued"). Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just me?
