Hi Guys,

I am in th emarket for a x61 notebook. However i can't figure out which one to buy between these 2? Any major differences or is the x61 sufficient?

Also will 2GB RAM in either of these be good enough to run Vista business smoothly?:)

X61s comes with Low Voltage (LV) processor and is slimmer, thinner and lighter than X61 counterpart. For more detailed differences, I suggest you refer to tabook. X61s comes with an option of UltraLight screen manufactured by TMD Japan; as well.

2GB will be fine, although in few years, it will demand more.

Thanks for the info Appreaciate it. I will weigh the differences to see if i need the s version. I actually used the X61 non S and it seems light enough for me....

The trick now is do i configure the laptop to be 1 X 2GB stick or 2 X 1GB. Of course the latter is the cheaper...

Also any ideas if i was to purchase the X61/S in the USA, will the power supply be 110V-240V? Or is it just 110V?

Reason i ask is that i am from Australia and we use 220V-240V and when i bought my T42 in the USA i was lucky enough to have a 110V-240V power pack! Hopefully its the same with the X61 series?

Yep, will be same.

You'll just need a converter (no transformer) to change the prongs of the adapter.

Now the only problem is i won't be in the USA for very long, only like 5 days at each city. i.e. New York, LA and San Francisco. All at hotels except at New York at a friends place!

Can i just walk into a shop and purchase a lenovo x series? Or it has to be done online? Reason i don't want to do it online is the risk that it won't ship on time!

What do you think?

edit: i found one but not many models available. Not like the lenovo website where you can customize it how you like!

The X61 and X61s have had a horrible shipping record (Lenovo's shipping is despicably slow now, especially for Thinkpads and batteries) so I doubt you'll find it in a store, however I have heard of some Business Depot stores having some Lenovo X61 series. I bought mine off a guy in the US who got a few of them from a Business Depot - and I saved a lot!

You can find pre-configured models in stores in the US. Try BestBuy (For Business), CircuitCity or Office Depot to find one.

Also do you guys recommend buying the additional 1GB ram from Lenovo or will buying it third party be as good?

Does not matter. Whichever is cheaper and easier.

Thanks for that. Hopefully when i get the X61, it will be a good upgrade from my T42 14.1" SXGA+ 1GB RAM WinXP Pro......

I am finding the T42 to be too big/heavy to carry around these days....
