I installed the recommended Windows Vista updates yesterday which included security items, etc.

But when I restarted the x61T the Intel GMU 965 chipset driver software was disbled!!!!!!!! The driver is still shown as installed, but it displays the yellow warning triangle over it.

It won't display my external monitor since it has installed the Standard VGA device driver software instead.

I've tried everything to get it to work and none of these have solved it-

-system restore to an earlier date
-uninstalled the lenovo driver for the 965 chipset, then reinstalled it
-uninstalled the driver and installed the newer Intel driver
-rebooted between each uninstall and reinstall
-removed from docking station upon restart

The reason claims:
"This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system."

Has anyone had this problem?

Can anyone recommend how to get the driver back in working order?

mod edit: removed references to "service pack 2" as it does not exist for vista.

Vista doesn't even have SP1 out yet - only a Beta. I'm guessing that you're using XP, or that you meant something else. Perhaps you should clarify.

ooops, you are right. I do have Vista, and I loaded what I thought was a service pack (maybe not) but a host of Vista security fixes and updates for Vista.

Try the easiest thing first - under control panel -> device manager, uninstall the video driver and restart. Then use windows update or Lenovo System Update and it should automatically install the correct video driver for you.

Recommended resolution

Two devices have been assigned the same I/O ports, the same interrupt, or the same Direct Memory Access channel (either by the BIOS, the operating system, or a combination of the two). This error message can also appear if the BIOS did not allocate enough resources to the device (for example, if a universal serial bus (USB) controller is not an interrupt from the BIOS because of a corrupted Multiprocessor System (MPS) table).

You can use Device Manager to determine where the conflict is and disable the conflicting device. On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard.

3. Google search says reflashing the BIOS fixes the problem in most cases.

5. Always remember, "If it works, (if it ain’t broke), don’t fix it", especially don't install drivers from Windows Update.

thanks guys, I'll try these ideas and hopefully it will solve it. I don't recall seeing anything at all that said updates for drivers when I did the Windows update. It seemed like most were security updates but I didn't look at all details of every one listed....

Just to be clear..... did this come through the Vista Auto update service, or did you download it from a non-Microsoft web site and install it manually?

It was from Vista update notices from Microsoft. Most of them were labeled as critical security updates, and a few were Vista Ultimate items.
