ThinkPad X61 Tablet PC screen bezel problem

I've got my X61T for few days now, I didn't see any screen bezel issue on it. I am not sure Lenovo fixed it or I am just lucky. I'd like to know anyone has such problem? If so, I'll return my laptop even it doesn't have screen bezel problem. It only has 1 year warranty, I don't know whether it'll work properly after 1 year.

oh, NO!!!!!!! I do see a separation between the bezel and the LCD. It is very slight and would only appear if I either have the machine in tablet mode or the screen tilted very far back from the keyboard. The separation is very small and everything goes back to normal after the machine has cooled.

So my question is: will the problem get worse over time, or will it remain as is? Any updated info from Lenovo yet?

12.1 XGA multiview, multitouch one. It's not a issue for me now, but I am wondering in the future... ...

I am trying to take a picture but it's hard to see. Any comments? returne it or keep it? It's just under a week usage!!

the separation issue gets worse but is easy to fix, just needs some glue tape. Call your service. I would wait another weeks if anything else pops up and then let all issues being repaired together.

I am also convinced that Lenovo will repair this specific issue over the full life period of your tablet (regardless of warranty time) for their reputation.

I've got the same screen as you (although I have not used the multitouch screen once because the smudging that it leaves makes it impossible to see the screen at times) and I've bought my machine in September. I have never had the issue that people have had, and I think that has only affected those that owned the x60 NON tablet computer with a different screen.

it mostly appears on the "Superview" models, i.e., x61t SXGA+ (I have that one). Might be due to different screen coating, don't know. But definitely the bezel on all models, other than the rest of the chassis, is plain plastic and vulnerable to damage. Mine has cracks allover and some parts already came off. As fas as I know, Lenovo came up with a new and hopefully more durable bezel.

Like I said, it doesn't bother me so far, but what if it's getting worse over time usage. I don't know, to be honest, I like it but it only has one year warranty and I can't extend warranty in Canada even I got it from Lenovo Canada. I talked to them, if I return it back, I need pay 15% restock fee. I don't know what to do with it, I might sell it over eBay.

No mean to judge you by any means, but I remember you telling me about purchasing it from ebay.

I don't know when I told you that, but YES, I did get one from eBay. It's brand new open box, not sealed. The one I am talking here is brand new, sealed, shipped from Lenovo Canada.

Lenovo Canada has very different policy than the US i.e. 30 days no question asked even with open box you will get full refund. All you need to do is call the sales department and get an RMA. The number is 1-866-42THINK, if you bought it from lenovo Canada then you can always extend the warranty by calling 1-877-884-4658. On the other hand if you bought it from the US and the ServicePac offered in Canada does not match the 4 letter machine type then you would need to return to Point of Sale (POS) which is the US in your case, in simple words you would need to call lenovo US to get the warranty extended. If you call EasyServ in Canada and ask to be transferred to EasyServ in the US, you'll be.

Really? I just can't remember which number I called but a rep told me I can't extend warranty because it only has 1 year warranty coming with this machine when I got it? Also, I've been told, it doesn't have global warranty? I don't know about it, I used many IBM ThinkPads, this is my first Lenovo ThinkPad, I know logo changed but the warranty policy changed as well?

hello im suffering the same problem my screen is coming unglued from the bezel.... so I am sending it in...my location is Austria so I think they send it to Germany to have it repaired, well doesn't mather.I called lenovo... hmm not the nicest costumerservice had a lot of troubles with them and tnt (the delivery service which is supposed to pick up my x61t). I don't want to speak about the troubles I had with tnt... I will report back after my X61T is back...

p.s. my screen is the sxvga+ screen not the one with multitouch

Brand New X61 arrived on 11/16/07. I also have the higher res screen and can see how the bezal is beginning to bow up. Any suggestions and how prevent the Bezel Issue from occuring?

Other than that future headache, I love the X61! I had owned the Toshiba Tecra M4 and find the X61 supperior in every way.

Preventive measures??

All tablets being offered in Canada come with 3 yr. standard warranty. What's the 7 character product ID of your machine?

I have the X61 tablet SXGA+ model, and soon after getting it noticed the bezel start pulling away from the screen a couple of millimetres.

Now I've been using it for about three months and it's developed a related and more serious problem. The bottom quarter or so of the screen will start to shimmer and vibrate, with part of it disappearing off-screen.

If I press in the screen with moderate pressure, always in the same particular place (near the corner), often it will stop. But other pressure reapplied later, or simply using the thing, will make the shimmering start again.

I'm guessing the bezel coming away is related to some kind of issue with the ribbon cable. I'm gonna have to return it for warranty service. Aggravating.

Anyone else see this issue?

noetus, you have the "lower third" screen issue, another known and common defect. Its covered under warranty, and you can probably request for both the bezel issue and the lower-third issue to be fixed at the same time.

Well, I didn't know there was such a known defect. That's interesting. As it happens I got EasyServ repair and it came back in two days from TN, amazingly quick. Sent in Tuesday at lunchtime from Chicago, returned to me in New York by lunchtime on Thursday. And both issues are fixed (for now).

I did notice that I can where they scraped off the screw covers - there are little dents, nicks, and scratches on the surface of most of the little black screw covers. It isn't a big deal to me (you have to look fairly carefully) but I am a bit surprised - it doesn't seem very professional. I've worked on old Thinkpads quite a lot and though I caused these little nicks and scratches myself at first when taking the thing apart, I quickly learned the right technique with the right tool so as not to cause them.

I feel I could have done a better job disassembling the screen surround myself then they did!

Interested in hearing other people's feedback on the bezel issue.

I had two machine sent in for bezel replacement, which was done if the service report is to be believed.

The bezel problem promptly reappeared on one of the machines after 4 days (my personal one, goddamit). Either the fix is not working, I didn't get the fix when being told I was, or it was improperly applied. Frustrating as hell.

Interested in knowing if anyone else ran into similar behavior.
