hey guys,
just got my x61, but am noticing that the harddrive is only 106 gb instead of the 120 its supposed to be. I don't see any other partitions under my computer. where is the extra space? is it hidden somewhere for recovery?

There is a hidden System Recovery partition on your hard disk, which is about 4GB.
Besides, in some specs, 120GB means 120 billion bytes. But in the traditional sense, 1GB is 1024MB, and 1MB is 1024KB, so on so forth. So the errors add up.

I think the 4GB partition got bigger with Vista!! I can not confirm this but my install took 10GB's so it would not suprise me...
With the 1024 vs 1000 his drive should be around 117GB's so he is "missing" about 11GB's. I think it sounds OK if he is running Vista...

Actually, it is 120E9 / (1024)**3 = 111.759 GB. The rest is probably used by the hidden partition.

I have the same issue, my 120 GB HD is only 107 GB. I've had similar issues with HP while using Vista so I'm sure the OS has something to do with it.
