Something messing with hotkeys on my X60?

#1 Post by donzoomik » Tue Nov 20, 2007 5:58 am

I bought a X60 a few days ago.
I'm running Windows Vista with OSD installed and randomly my sound gets muted. It happens every few hours and i haven't yet been able to pinpoint the cause. When i press volume up or down, the previous situation gets restored.

Also, OSD sometimes reports, that Thinklight has been disabled even though i haven't even turned it on.

Running latest BIOS and Embedded Controller.

Any ideas?

I have the EXACT same problem with my x60t in vista business. there, it just did it again! It is several hot key things happening and showing on the OSD, like volume gets muted, brightness maxed (even though its already at max) and sometimes screen resolution changes for a few seconds and changes back (which i think is either presentation mode or zoom) and I also get the thinklight OSD show up from time to time.

VERY weird, could this be a thinkvantage problem or is something wrong with the hardware?

Are you both using retail versions of Windows Vista i.e. not an oem factory preload from lenovo?

I had found no such problem on Thinkpad X60 tablet PC using oem Windows Vista business from lenovo.

It sounds to me as if the Power Manager is playing cards on your machines, try creating a custom power scheme. Also make sure you have your machines up to date with updates like latest BIOS, Display drivers (from lenovo), hotkey drivers, Presentation Director, Power Management and Lenovo System Interface drivers.

Could this be as simple as a bad keyboard?

I would call Lenovo and explain the trouble. If they send a replacement you could give it a try.

After a forced reinstall i did some more testing. Installing Power Manager after hotkeys seems to mess up something. Reinstalling hotkeys seems to do the trick, at least my sound no longer gets muted randomly since last night's update.

reinstalled the hotkey driver driver, but still i have the exact same problem!
This is a Business version also, and it can't get anymore annoying than this! I hope Lenovo will find out where this glitch is.
For now, anybody any suggestions?
Everything is fully up to date.
Thanks
( to all the vista haters, i have not experienced a single problem yet, this is the first) so Good job Lenovo!

Yup, the problem has appeared again. I can't think any other problem than Hotkeys or power management.

Wow, I had that problem too ever since I bought my computer. I thought all this time it was just a vista bug. I'm trying to figure out if it's vista or lenovo software which is causing my computer to hay wired.

Strangely, after a lot of testing and sereral Windows reinstalls i am no longer experienxing these issues. The solution seemed to be restarting the computer after each ThinkVantage update. It took quite a lot longer to install the software, but it works! :)

I've had the same problem since I got my X60 tablet almost a year ago. It seems to occur when I'm running Visual Studio and the battery is not fully charged. For instance when I'm unplugged or when I'm plugged in and charging. It also seems to occur after the battery is fully charged for a while but then goes away. All of the symptoms are related to the Windows Mobility Center: Mute, Zoom, ThinkLight. I've uninstalled the screen zoom so I can get some work done but the volume thing is rather frustrating. I sure hope we can track this down.
