Wifi & WWAN drops frequently

I have had a connection problem since I got my X61 a few months ago. My machine connects via wifi and WWAN (Verizon) fine, but at some point it drops and will not reconnect without rebooting. Sometimes this happens in a few minutes and sometimes it takes a couple of hours, but it happens most every time I am connected.

When this occurs, the connection icon in the system tray shows that I am still connected to the network & the internet, but I can't access the internet. Disconnecting & reconnecting rarely solves the problem. Once in a while (not ususally), I will be able to access new mail in Outlook 2007, but will have no other connectivity to the internet.

This will happen at my office and also at home. It doesn't seem to matter if it is a B, G or even an N modem. It also happens on the Verizon cellular connection.

When this happens, other machines on the same wireless router stay connected and work fine. Just my X61 experiences this issue.

Is this a known issue? None of the updates have made any difference. Any ideas on how to correct this?

Mine improved when I removed access connections and disabled the the "other radio" when not in use by using f5. Just use VZaccess when you want WWAN. It improved even further when I switched to vista x64.

Thanks.

With Verizon VZaccess, did you just download it from the Verizon site? Did you install it after the WWAN was working on your machine?

If you remove Access Connections, how do you switch between multiple wifi profiles (Office, Home, etc.)?

How big an improvement did you see (before moving to 64)?

I think VZaccess was already on my machine directly from Lenovo possibly downloaded it though. I know for sure that I had to download it from Verizons site when I changed to vista x64.

To try to answer your other question...Out of 100% wireless reliability:

70% reliability after removing access connections
90% reliability after going to vista x64

I just use vista's built in wireless utility to connect to my different Wireless Lan connections. I use VZaccess when connecting to WWAN.

I use cntrl f5 to turn off whatever wireless radio I am not currently using.

Hope this helps as it was tough for me to figure out how to fix my wireless issues.
