Strange video issue

New X61 tablet (7767 A4U) - with a mysterious video problem. The LCD seems to work ONLY when there's an external monitor connected. Which doesn't make it much of a portable!

It arrived yesterday and I set it up last night. Worked okay so I shut down and installed the additional G of RAM. Restarted, still worked okay, so I went out for the evening.

Switched it on when I came home, heard the Vista "Starting Windows" noise, and went over to start installing software. The screen was blank.

It looked to me like a dead backlight - my 5yr old A31p has a dead backlight and it looks the same - I can dimly see things on the display but there's no illumination. I connected the external monitor I use with the A31p, and BOTH displays work.

Fn+F7 is currently doing nothing - the display is now in a dual monitor setup, so when I move the mouse off the right side of the LCD, it keeps moving on the external monitor.

Have I stumbled into some weird display config, and if so, how do I get out of it?

In the Display settings please verify which monitor is check marked or chosen as default.

Vista's Display Settings shows Monitor 1 as the X61's LCD - I assume that's the default?

I see, you connected it to an external display after it went blank. Sounds like you've a loose connection on the inverter board or a bad inverter itself.

If I were you I would be calling IBM Support Center at: 1-800-565-3344 or 416-383-3344 in Toronto.
