I'm considering upgrading from 60gig 5400 my x60s came with. Any indication if this will decrease battery life on my 8 cell?

sounds as if heat isn't an issue, and relatively little speed increase as I use xp and just word process mostly.

i was also considering a SATA II hdd, but understand my x60s isn't compatible?

The effect on battery is minuscule. It is louder though.

I thought SATAII was backwards compatible? Not that it's any sort of must-have feature, it really doesn't do anything (yet).

An x60s typically uses 9-16W when operating on battery.

A typical 5400RPM drive (5K100) is 2W active, .85W idle.
A typical new 7200RPM drive (7K200) is 2.3W active, 1W idle.
