Ext. WWAN card support for X61, X61t - no express card slot

#1 Post by Alltweed » Tue Dec 04, 2007 4:35 am

What kind of a WWAN throughput hit should I expect with an X61 or X61T in that they do not come with Express card slots? (specs below)

I have an external VZW WWAN express card V740(supports rev a) that I need to use for WWAN. Works fine with my t60 which has express card slot.

And...based on the specs below for the x61 and x61T, can you tell if one machine would work better than the other for my card? They appear to have slight differences.

X61:
Conforms to the PC Card standard 97
Can accommodate one Type I or one Type II slot
Both 16-bit and 32-bit cards are supported
PCMCIA 2.1 standard

X61T:
Conforms to the PC Card Standard 95
The Type II slot can accommodate one Type I or one Type II
16-bit Release 2.1 card standard and the new 32-bit CardBus cards are supported
Ricoh Card Bus/PCMCIA Controller R5C843

T60:
Type II PC Card slot
Two ExpressCard/54 slot
Conforms to the PC Card Standard 95
Type II slot
Both the 16-bit Release 2.1 card standard and the 32-bit CardBus card are supported

Learned a few things.

1) You need a type II adpator for PC express cards. Belkin has some and I found one at Newegg. About $35.

2) For info on PC card types and differences see: http://www.pcmcia.org/faq.htm
