I placed an order of a X61 with the 100GB 7200 rpm harddrive directly from Lenovo last week, does anyone know which brand and model that would be? Is it noisy or not?

I replaced the 5400rpm harddrive in my X31 with a Hitachi 7k100 earlier this year, and I found it pretty noisy. I somehow thought that 7200rpm 2.5" harddrive is not supposed to be silent anyway. But I read some threads that people are claiming that the new 7k200 is silent! For those who used both 7k100 and 7k200, does the 7k200 really sound a lot less noisy compared to the 7k100? How does it compare to the 7200rpm harddrive that comes with X61?

lenovo uses both hitachi and samsung so it's the luck of the draw on which drive you'll get.   afaik all hitachi drive supplied by lenovo are 7K100 and not 7K200 series.

i have a 7K200 in my T61p and it's the quietest and fastest notebook HDD i've owned so far.   my X61 came with a samsung 160GB 5400.1 and it's quiet, too, but i think the 7K200 is slightly better in terms of noise.

Oh that's nice. Let's hope that mine will come with a 7k200 as well.
