Firewire 400 Backup External Hard Drive need Power?

I want to have a back-up hard drive in a 2.5" enclosure that runs both USB and Firewire 400. The X60 laptop has the 4 wire Firewire but external enclosures have the six wire for the power. Do I need separate power for a Firewire drive with an interface?

Also, could I use the USB port for power?

Any recommendations as to which 2.5" enclosure to use for a S-ATA 160 GB HD? TIA

Yes, you need separate power. The 4-pin firewire port on PC's doesn't provide power.

USB can provide power if you get a drive that comes with a USB power adapter cable for that.
