X60 vs X61 on screen types

I am new into the Tablet PCs therefore I have a few questions I could not find an answer on Lenovo’s site:

1) Lenovo mentions two screens available a SXGA+ and a Touch XGA. There is no “touch” in SXGA+… does it mean that this screen won’t recognize finger inputs on the screen? If so, why we don’t get a T61 instead?

2) Is there any difference on nits (brightness) between a X60 and a X61?

3) Last about screen, with same resolution, is it better a T60’s screen than a X60? More nits, more contrast?

4) Lenovo mentions some HDD as encrypted. Can we convert other HDD as encrypted the same way (using the same formula as Lenovo and without using other third party solution?

5) The platform that is sold apart and has the DVD burner, will it add much more weight? Is it comfortable to transport as would be a T60 laptop? Is the DVD-RW a Matshita? (These are blocked for Region change)

Sorry, for the bombardment of questions… it is just a reflection of my mental state right now about my next purchase.

For me the screen is the primary concern. Love high resolution, great contrast and a light laptop. No concern about screen size.

I believe that the HDDs offered by Lenovo are Hitachi's BDE (Bulk Data Encryption) drive (the 200GB 7200 RPM version) and the Seagate FDE.2 (Full Disk Encryption) drive (the 160GB 5400 RPM version). Those are drives that handle all the encryption/decryption in the drive hardware and do it completely transparently.

I am assuming that if you are able to get a hold of the a Hitachi BDE or Seagate's FDE.2 drive, that you would be able to install them in the X61 and use their encryption capability.

The "Touch" supports multi-touch, so you can use your fingers, as opposed to the regular where you can only use the pen.

The X60/X61 Tablet has a better screen than any other current Thinkpad, because it's IPS (wide viewing angle). However, it may not be as bright, especially with the digitizer surface that turns it into a touch screen.

5) The platform that is sold apart and has the DVD burner, will it add much more weight? Is it comfortable to transport as would be a T60 laptop? Is the DVD-RW a Matshita? (These are blocked for Region change)

It adds like 700grams (a pound and a half). While you can carry it more than you can carry a T-series dock, it's generally meant to be a desk solution. The new Super-Multi DVD Burner can be either a Matshita or a Hitachi-LG (preferred), but I'm not sure you can know in advance which one you will get.

So, the HDD encryption offered is a hardware component and the SXGA+ screen still is active but by a pen instead of the finger... that is perfect ok with me! Thanks guys!

My only concern now is how less bright and defined that SXGA+ screen will be in comparison to my T42p´s 15” 1600x1200 Flexview. Other than that, I think I´ll be ok with a X60 Tablet.

One last question... Is there any difference on clarity or brightness between a SXGA+ from an X60 and another from a X61?

In theory these should be the exact same screens...

Now, I´ll decide which to purchase.. a X60, X61 or remain with my T42p another year...

x61t has tighter bonding and different coating. Therefor it has less parallax, is a bit brighter and attracts more dust.

Re: Brightness

I have a T60 15" Flexview. I was amazed when I saw that my X61T SXGA+ was much brighter!! Very white pages and very bright.

I was concerned after reading reviews of how much brigther the X60 XGA was than X61T XGA/SXGA+...

Also. I was concerned about the sxga+ resolution being too small for 12.1. Mostly no - its fine if you....

go to your display in control panel and mess with the font sizes for all the different windows. Make letters bold for example. I set most of the settings on 20 and 10 an bold whereever possible.

For surfing the web - you can change both the zoom and text size within IE - Works like a charm and I have my SXGA and more real estate and my DPI is still native 96..

That said, there are a couple of websites where the fonts remain a little small like Lenovo(Go Figure), but cnet and forums etc - look fine. The fonts also stay small in my lower tool bar - I may just need to find the right settings.

Very sharp with my deep purplish/dark blue desktop backgroung and white bolded font lettering under my icons. its a looker.

Only thing I am not used to yet with tablet is not having the 2 steel latches for the lid on non tablets. tablets don; tget that extra reenforcement - just the cneter ring to balance screen . but it seems stable enough.

I set up a minimum font size settings for the browsers, that way, regardless of what a website tells the browser to display, it won't go below say 16.

How do I do this. I went to Tools = Int Options and fonts, but did not see any way to set the minimum fiont size

I use FF, there is an advanced screen, under the font options, which says minimum, just select something there.

Not sure on IE. I can check later though.
