Upgrading an X60s
Upgrading an X60s
I see some references about upgrading the hdd to the 7k200 which i plan on doing but my question is see different capacity 7k200's will the X60s support the 200gig version of the 7K200? also, i would like to upgrade my wirless to wireless N, is this possible? is it a bad idea? lastly, i use the verizon evdo pcmcia card (poor planning i know) I cant add the internal version after the fact correct? Im guessing the antenna would be missing?
Thanks in advance

1. Your X60s supports the mentioned drive with 200GB capacity.
2. The N drafted cards comes disabled with N support.
3. Yes, you would not only need to add the antenna but also would need to make sure that your desired future WWAN card is supported by your thinkpad BIOS.

Re: Upgrading an X60s
The WWAN antenna is not the problem since it can be added. The problem is that the second MiniPCI Express socket is probably missing from the motherboard of an X60/s machine which does not have the WWAN antenna.Weez wrote:...I cant add the internal version after the fact correct? I pulled the keyboard and palmrest and see that EOMtp was exactly right, the socket is missing. I see the soldered pads there where the socket would have been.
ryengineer, what exactly does this mean?
2. The N drafted cards comes disabled with N support.
Thanks for all the replies, they are much appreciated. I ordered the 200 gig HD so at least one part of my upgrade will happen

I have been able to retrofit a Lenovo-authorised Atheros a/b/g/n wireless LAN card into my X60s, and it was able to work fine.
As there is no third WLAN antenna in my system, I had to settle for one of those under-keyboard antennas you can buy from eBay. In any case it seemed to work fine.
I've gone back to the Intel a/b/g card for now, as the Atheros drivers were preventing the laptop from entering sleep mode. (Never was able to work out why, either)

It's the card with FRU# 42T0825. On the device driver matrix for the X60 series, there's a listing for the "ThinkPad a/b/g/n" card; this was the driver I used.short101 wrote:Ah, the windows atheros drivers support 'n' ? What card was this?
The system booted up fine (no 1802 error), Windows drivers installed OK, and connected with my router at 130Mbit/sec. My router is a WRT350N and as such can't do the dual band 2.4/5GHz thing to get the full 300Mbit/sec.
