Re: Fresh Factory Restore on X61T - Had couple of Issues

After longer than 3hrs and seeming to be stuck in "installing applications" mode, I made the choice to close out some of the open windows including one window that looked like a dos command code box.

Because it indicated that it was finished I closed it, and the rest of the install process quickly finished.

But now two issues:

1) While my new desktop was loading I got a popup saying Thinkvantage Access Connections cannot run on this platform..So, I need to figure out which application I excluded during the custom install that must be tied to AC. Yes, I did keep ac or I just had an install glitch

2) I alo got this system preparation tool 2.0 popup box that say it prepares a computers hard drive for delivery to user. 3 options of how to set up the machine. Looks like something the factory uses to set the final system up for user.

Plan to do install agian after some research. X61T Xp 2005 edition

You need to let the process complete no matter how long it takes and you were performing custom factory restore, fresh or clean install means wiping everything out from your HDD and installing a fresh copy of an Operating System and installing no to minimal lenovo softwares and utilities afterwards.

I suggest you redo it again.

Well, 3.5 hrs seemed like a long time and the dos box said it was complete but i digress. Something was not right. Also, I am missing CSS, R+R, Ultra Nav Wizard and the AC.

One tech said something about some imaging problems with the drives but had no details. I am talking to the SW preload group friday if I need to.

So, I will do it again, but I think I will first post all the apps I plan to exclude below to see if anyone advises otherwise.. Will post list in a new thread. Others may want to see full list.

Caveat - My system is X61T, Xp 2005 tablet...I thought there would be other apps i could remove like MS Office 2007 trial, Client security center. Not displayed in list.

Apps with an X are the apps I'd like to exclude from the Lenovo preload partition. These are the ones I did remove on the first pass - maybe thats where I had a problem.

Well, I see you edited your 1st post, yes 3 hours isn't normal. I suggest you restore your machine via Product Recovery disks and then secondly initiate the custom factory restore process.

MS Office 2007 trial does not reside on service partition.

Your list seems ok, shouldn't have any problem again.

Yes. I am a stickler for trying to make things clear.

Do I need to use the recovery disks? I do have them, but my system appears to be able to go back into factory install mode where I could just try it agian from the pre load partition?

Thats how I got the list - I went that far and then backed out.

Your call, the method I mentioned is very long and since the tech said something about imaging problem so I was speculating you could've a bad image of the recovery partition. Give another try via method of your choice.

Update:

well, after a factory refresh from cd/dvd - system is mostly back. it loaded just fine all the original apps.

I then went back to do a custom install - removed the applications i did not want - all is well.

I only have one hiccup. As the system boots up, I get to the finger print screen, swipe finger all is well passes to the blue desktop screen - but then for 1/2 second goes black and then back to the desktop. No further issues

Any ideas about this quick screen switch ?
