I'm not sure what changed, but in the past few weeks, the problem has gone away entirely.

I had the same problem but I figured out that it would only happen when I disabled wireless using the "slider-button" at the from of the laptop. This is on a x60s.

I almost always had my slider in the "wireless enabled" mode, and it still happened.

All I can guess is Vista SP1 or some driver update fixed it.

Now i'm having this problem. For a year an a half, everything worked fine, now i have the blank screen issue. Don't know what has changed in the past few weeks... :(

I just realized something! I can't guarantee this is the solution, but a few weeks ago, I sent in my X60 in for warranty service. The returned item was an entirely new chassis, which definitely included a new monitor but may have included other parts like the motherboard.

I wonder if, in fact, the new hardware either fixed the problem or spurred the OS to change its habits?
