X61s keyboard issues

Hi,

A few days ago I have noticed a strange thing with my keyboard. Some of the key groups on the keyboard are on a different height than the other.

For example, the whole left hand key group (qwert asdf zxcv) are higher then the right hand key group (yuiop hkl;nm,). The 'J' key is an exception, it's on the right side of the keyboard but it's height is the same as the left group keys.

Is this normal?

And here's another issue that I'm encountering. Sometimes my keys generate a weird sound (like a deep beep tone) after release. It affects only the left control key and the "windows key". If I press it a deep tone comes from the inside of the notebook (not a normal key press click). I have even powered off my ThinkPad and the sound was still there! When I came back after c.a. 15 minutes the sound was gone. It happens at least once a day.

Has anyone noticed anything similar in their ThinkPad?

Thanks a lot!

Do this:

Device Manager > Click "View" > Show Hidden Devices > "Non-Plug and Play Drivers" will be displayed in the list > Expand it > Right click on the "Beep" and select "Properties" > Driver > Type > Disable. (This will permanently disable it until you modify the settings again).

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately it did not help. I'm still having the same issue. Even with the laptop turned off.

I believe this is not normal, have your machine checked by IBM tech support.

Also reseat your keyboard to see if that makes any difference.

Go to page 49 of HMM to see if it isn't any of the beep symptoms:

Hardware Maintenance Manual - ThinkPad X60, X60s, X61, X61s.
