x61s fan spin up and spin down noise

#1 Post by csadowski » Thu Jan 10, 2008 2:15 pm

I bought an x61s a few months ago, and the machine runs well except for one problem:

When the fan starts up or spins down to full speed, it makes a weird almost like grinding or rubbing noise. When the fan is running, it runs fine. The noise only happens when the fan starts or stops. I just sent the machine in to Lenovo and it was returned to me, and it is still making this noise.

Is this a problem with the machine? Does anyone else experience this? What should I do?

What does the repair report say?

It doesn't say anything. It just says the machine was extensively tested to ensure the problem was corrected. The comments section is blank and they said they updated my bios/embedded controller.

Bios update, yes. That is what they usually do and then claim that issue was fixed. So you have to send it back in again.

Best thing you can do to avoid such things next time is to write the problem (and solution if you know) on a sheet of paper for the technicians people an stick it to the machine. That is, because they do not have access to what you told the support via telephone...weird but thats how it works.

The fan wasn't replaced then, if you don't like sending it again to them then you can have it serviced at any IBM authorized repair center in your area.

Find a service provider.

Otherwise quote the case number on top of the repair sheet next time you call the support to let them know the machine still has the problem and not resolved.

Thanks for the help guys . I called Lenovo and they're sending another box. I'll leave them a note stating the problem. :)
