Lower Screen Resolutions don't fill the full screen

I thought I recall having this issue once before on my old T41, and recall it being a BIOS change, but I can't seem to find it on my X60 tablet (which is about to go back to Lenovo anyway, but I would like to fix this until it does)

Vista Business (if it helps)

My SXGA+ panel has a native resolution of 1400x1050, but when I lower the resolution to say 1024x768 (or any other 4:3 resolution), rather than drop the the lower resolution and scale everything to fit the screen, it creates a small box in the middle of the screen at the resolution I select.

So, for instance i select 800x600, I get a tiny box in the middle at 800x600, and huge black space around all the edges.

Any idea how to get it to scale every res up to the full screen?

This is not your tablet's problem, this is Windows Vista issue in general, I've seen it on atleast 3 systems.

The successful trick is to use your graphics card display settings and not Windows.

Do this:

Right Click Personalize > Display Settings > Advanced Settings > Intel GMA > Graphics Properties > Display Settings > Screen Resolution.

If this isn't a known Vista driver issue, there is the hardware screen expansion function that may not be enabled.

You can turn this on either in the BIOS, or in the ThinkPad Features utiliity. (I think that's what it's called, its the configuration utility with the picture of a ThinkPad in the middle, and lots of buttons around the edges)

Unfortunately, there isn't any Thinkpad Configuration utility released for Windows Vista.

jst go in the BIOS and enable HV Expansion. I have it disabled but without it enabled all resolutions just stay in the middle of the screen unless it's the native resolution.

I think it should be under config - display settings.

Well i tried in the BIOS - HV Expansion is already enabled. And when i go into the advanced settings as instructed above, the resolution never changes. :(

Did you have the following drivers installed from lenovo:

Video Driver (Intel 940GML / 945GM / GL960 / GM965) for Windows Vista (32bit) - R60, R60e, R61, R61e, R61i, T60, T61, X60, X60s, X60 Tablet, X61, X61s, X61 Tablet, Z61e, Z61m, Z61t, Reserve Edition.

It works for me, even though there is no HV Expansion or Thinkpad Configuration utility available for X61t.

It's hard to show but here it is what happens:

1. (screen doesn't fill)

2.

3. (screen fills)

I'm using lenovo's factory preload though.
