New X61T Recovery Part. Error inc. Vista truble

#1 Post by kokein » Tue Jan 15, 2008 7:33 am

Hello,

Its nice to join thinkPad comunity :)

Last week I bought a Lenovo X61 Tabet (7767-B8G) :D

The fist look was amazing, Vista works fine till is starts to slow down a bit... Ok, the new 2gb ram was inserted, removed Norton and some unnecessary (installable) apps.
It was great! Stabile, fast, ...like IBM should be ;-)
I've done the Recovery DVD's (it make me a two of them: 1.boot + 2.product), i've made some backup's (inc.external drive too)
The system was fully Updated (ThinkVentage Updates+MS Vista)

And here is the problem:
Vista got a some terrible error, it was not responding, restarting (quite a lot problems as well) but i thougt that it's no problem bcs i have revovery part.

I've renew my system to few days ago, but it has recover Vista with out my USER & ADMIN & FINGERPRINT data - what cosses unable to login (the user was "empty")

No problem i sad, i've Recovery DVD's at last...

I've done it, Vista installed like new, everything went ok till i started to search of Rescue & Recovery program (to take files from external backup)

The software wasn't there, so i downloaded update (it has found like 4.1x ver.)

But install faild...

"Error 25013, obtaining the Rescue and Environment drive letter"

Cant do any think, even after downloading R&R 4.2 ver. installation breaks...

The partition table wasn't changed by me, maby Recovery DVD's done somethink wrong. (i've made this mistake in Sony Vaio & wan't done it again on my new laptop)

Boot screen shoots link below: (i'ts depends from nothing, one time is like this, one time its like that, in other Vista starts fluently)
From time to time it shows F11 recovery option, sometimes, just blinking coursor, or BOOTMGR error.

Any ideas?! :-(
Pls give me any advivce... if there is any one =)

1. Perform a low level format on your drive and start building up your partition from ground zero using the recovery disks.

2. Another option is to try the following package:

Rescue and Recovery - Recovery repair diskette.

You'll need a floppy disk drive, external floppy disk drive works as well, it has to be a FDD though.

The above package may or may not fix the problem but 1 should.

3. Windows Vista DVD should also be able to fix boot manager problem.

Ok, i wasn't trying a low level format cose of a lot of data that i didn't want to loose (after this upload it from backup)

What did i done:

1. Downloaded "Rescue and Recovery - Recovery repair diskette". (link abowe)

2. Unpacked it with WinImage from FDD and copy the files to bootable USB Pen drive.

3. Boot from USB Key, found files, lunched a doe.exe

4. Follow instructions on screen and reboot after it finishes.

5. Started Vista, downloaded R&R update, it has installs w/o errors. :-)

6. Reboot and voila - its working without formating my hard drive and without restoring again my system from DVD's (or CD's)

I think, after this i done, that i can alsow boot windows in command com (cmd) option on start. From there you can alsow lunch (extracted from fdd) files to fix BOOTMGR.

I'm linking files for VISTA ONLY boot fix extracted from Floppy image, it sould help all that are expecting ERROR mentioned on my first post:

"Error 25013, obtaining the Rescue and Environment drive letter"

How have you done this part?

BTW, do you think your fix will work for a T61p?

Edit: OK, I assume you first "burned" the file to a floppy and then to USB...

Yes, indeed...
It was not easy to find a FDD capable PC in these days :-)
But you are right, for first think i "burned" the data to FDD and afte this i copied them (like a image) to PC (some files).

I can't take no resposibility for using it on any notebook, only that i can say: it hepls me for sure.

R&R update program gone trouth install w/o any errors, finaly i've working R&R bootable Menu :-)

Most important think i supose, it that you need boot up system, that can see C:/ as your main local hdd (system) [it cannot make it c:/ "ramdrive"] , othervise it'll (it-means R&R Fix) try to repair other partition...

Please anybody, correct me if i'm wrong...!!! its just a teory...

The same as that i think, it is possible to run this "R&R Fix TOOL" on cmd_line booted vista :-) ?!

!! And of course there are 2 different fix tools for VISTA and XP system based partitions tabe... !!

I've tried to open those files on vista, but only XP was able to make thise floppy...

:-)
