Memory Question
Memory Question
I have a X61t and only had 1GB memory. A few months ago I added another 1GB and realized that I should have probably gotten 2. So, after these past few months, I ordered another 1GB...Oooops. Problem is, I needed to actually have ordered 2GB initially now that I know there was only 1 empty slot available for memory.
Does anyone know if Newegg, where I bought this from, would take back my newly purchased memory even though I opened it already (yes, stupid I know, but my anxiousness to add it overcame me and realized when I opened the back of my thinkpad that there was not more slots) if I replace it with 2GB? I also realize I'll have to take the other memory stick I just had gotten out as well but it's worth it to me. I'm adding more and more stuff and just need it.
One other thing...If I wanted to go up to 4 GB, can I remove BOTH my current memory without it affecting my system at all?
Thanks for the help.

X60t only supports 3GB (actually about 3.3GB) even with a 64-bit OS.Harryc wrote:No, you can add 2 x 2GB with no problem. You'll have to run a 64bit OS to use anything more than 3GB though. Contact Newegg and explain to them you want to buy 2 x 2GB and return 1 x 1GB opened, they may waive the restocking fee based on the fact that you are ordering more merchandise.
Given how cheap 1GB memory modules are, it may not be worth the time/trouble to return your 1GB. Get one 2GB module, and call it good.
